[Previous entry: "No Link Between Amateur Boxing, Long-Term Brain Damage"] [Main Index] [Next entry: "Angel 'Toro' Hernandez - 'Mexican Warrior' Personified!"] 10/07/2007 Archived Entry: "FIGHT NIGHT 57, The Lucky Eagle Casino" FIGHT NIGHT 57, The Lucky Eagle Casino Saturday October 6, 2007 (Press Release) NWBA Title Heavyweight, Scheduled 8 Rounds Eric “Night Train” Boose: Puyallup , WA ; (12-2-1, 7KO) 236 lbs vs. Jonathan “Too Sweet” Williams: Tacoma , WA (7-5, 6 KO) 204 lbs. Jonathan “Too Sweet” Williams defeated Eric “The Night Train” Boose in a controversial TKO 2 minutes and 39 seconds into the second round. The punches hit like thunder and lightning as the fighters collided in the ring. Much like lightning strikes a large tree and takes it down out of nowhere, the same could be said of Williams fist hitting Boose’s muscular body at the end of the first round, sending Boose crashing to the mat. Then, Williams sucker-punched Boose again while he was still struggling to get up from the mat. With no call from the Ref, the crowd jumped to their feet and booed loudly. The fight was allowed to continue despite the protest from Boose’s corner that the fight should end with William’s disqualification for his dirty fighting. Instead, Boose stumbled around the ring getting hammered by further blows from Willimas until finally the fight was called TKO for Boose’s own protection. There was nothing sweet about how this title was transferred from Boose the “Night Train” to “Too Sweet” Williams. Light Heavyweight, Scheduled 4 Rounds Luis Lopez: Othello , WA (13-10-1, 5 K0) 171 lbs vs. Manny Castillio: Los Angles, CA (13-14-3, 5KO) 171 lbs. Luis Lopez and Manny Castillo fought to a majority 4 round draw. Castillio was more of a showman then a fighter. Castillio blew kisses at Lopez and taunted him wildly, while Lopez sneered back, eyes burning behind a dark bearded mask of facial hair and body ink. Resentful, Lopez landed some deafening body shots but Castillio would grimace momentarily and return to ridiculing his opponent. In the end, Lopez could not harm the thick skinned Castillio, whose showmanship and timely jab allowed him to narrowly pull even for a majority draw. Judges scored the fight 39-37, 38-38, 38-38. Heavyweight, Scheduled 4 Rounds Leo Bercier: Great Falls , MT ( 3-4-1, 2 KO) 215 lbs vs. Channing Denontiney : Great Falls , MT ( 1-5, 1K0 ) 234 lbs. Leo Bercier defeated Channing Denontiney by TKO in 3:00 minutes of the second round. Denontiney charged out of his corner in the first round like it was all you could eat night at the Lucky Eagle Buffet. The portly Denontiney was hungry for a victory, but in the end it was his sagging tummy that got in the way. Bercier targeted Denontiney’s soft underbelly, and his gloves thumped Denontiney’s plump abdomen until he could not take it anymore. After being dropped twice in the second round with two devastating gut busting wallops, Denontiney decided not to answer the bell to start the third round, thus disqualify himself and his drooping waistline. Super Welterweight, Scheduled 4 Rounds Lester Belmores: Henderson , NV ; (4-7, 1KO) 149 lbs vs. Dustin Neely: Sidney , MT (2-1, 1KO) 148 lbs. Lester Belmores defeated Dustin Neely in a 4 round unanimous decision. Neely was hyped up right from the beginning bouncing around the ring with eyes wide like a child whose eaten too much candy and had a few shots of espresso. Neely was consistently over-reaching Belmores, swinging hard but missing his quick-footed contender. Although Neely kept the action coming with lots of punches his weakness could not be denied in the second round when he kept dropping his left hand allowing a hole for Belmores to sneak in solid right hooks that repeatedly dropped Neely to his knees. In the end, it was the right hooks that won this fight for Belmores. Welterweight, Scheduled 4 Rounds Tammie Johnson: Lynwood , WA ; (1-0) 143 lbs vs. Jana Simms: Mt. View , CA (0-2-2) 147 lbsTammie Johnson defeated Jana Simms in a 4 round unanimous decision. From the first bell, Johnson came out of the corner like a tazmanian devil swinging her arms wildly. She dominated the fight chasing Simms around the ring like a tornado of sloppy punches. At first, it seemed like a patient, more experienced Simms was simply waiting for her opponent to tire out so she could strike, but if she was waiting, her opportunity passed, as the pummeling she took in the first three rounds equally tired her out by the end of the forth round. Johnson won her first professional fight of her career. Super Middleweight, Scheduled 4 Rounds Michael Birthmark: Billings , MT ; (1-0) 162 lbs vs. Lyle Johnson: Clarkston , WA (3-1, 1KO) 166 lbsMichael Birthmark defeated Lyle Johnson in a 4 round unanimous decision. Johnson started out with his left shoulder forward and his glove dropped loosely below his waist, perhaps already anticipating the beating he was about to get from the rookie fighter. Birthmark with reflexes like a cat, began striking his opponent with precise and intentional jabs. He landed some left hooks in the second round, his endless energy never dwindling, finishing the third round with a smile, still unduanted like it was only the first. Birthmark charged out of his corner in the fourth round attacking Johnson with a series of punches. Johnson was unable to keep up with the rookie, and while Birthmark won his first professional match, Johnson suffered his first loss. Welterweight, Scheduled 4 Rounds Frank Bybee: Tacoma , WA ; (4-11) 148 lbs vs. Phillip Moore: Silverton, ID (2-0) 147 lbsPhillip Moore defeated Frank Bybee by TKO in 3 minutes of the third round. Bybee came out of his corner crouched down like a tiger, pushing Moore against the ropes as they circled the ring. In the second round Moore started to look like the more dominate fighter as he landed a few powerful punches to Bybee’s head, but it wasn’t until the third round that Bybee’s exhaustion overtook him. Moore landed a solid shot to Bybee’s stomach and dropped him. Bybee tried to regain his breath and control, but got hit with another solid left hook to his body and was dropped again. The doctor decided Bybee had enough and the win went to Moore at the end of the third round. Cruiser weight, Scheduled 4 Rounds Ross Haskins: Seattle , WA ; (0-2) 178 lbs vs. Ron Simmons: Lewiston , ID (2-1) 182 lbsRon Simmons defeated Ross Haskins by TKO in 3 minutes of the second round. A tall and lanky Haskins came jumping out of the corner chasing Simmons around the ring. Haskins landed some solid punches at the end of the first round and finished the round strong, but the second round belonged to Simmons. Simmons knocked Haskins to the ropes with a powerful right hook and then followed with another right hook that knocking Haskins to his knees. The round ended as Haskins hit the mat again and the doctor ruled that he was no longer eligible to fight. Posted by rudy @ 10/12/2007 04:11 PM EST I'm not trying to start an arguement. I talked with Booses manager, and he himself said the result wont be changed.I could care less who the champion is, because the crowd seen who had there hands after the fight, and that's the man I will be fighting next, if he accepts the challenge.A belt doesn't make a champion, a champion does. If Boose can hold his head high while winning the title on his back, then I'm sure Jon will hand it to him. I have won a title on my back, and that is the worst feeling in the World, and I couldn't even help it. I was fouled. His bad. If Boose hadn't told the ref he was OK, Jon would have been DQed. The promoter, Bennie Georgino, said it was not that late of a punch.
Posted by Chauncy @ 10/11/2007 01:03 PM EST Mr. Chauncy: The title that Too Sweet has is tainted, because it was the ref's error for not disqualifying him when he hit a man who was down!! And by taking points away, they admit that something was wrong, just by that. Eric will again have the title. And, oh by the way, I WAS there!! Tricia
Posted by Tricia @ 10/11/2007 12:34 PM EST I haven't seen the fight, but Jon had 2 points taken away. Why should he be disqualified. If Boose got up and stated he could not continue to the ref, Jon would have been disqualified, but he said he was OK, apperantly, so the ref did his job, and took 2 points away. Kinda like if Montell Griffin would have said he could continue, Roy Jones would have lost a point or 2, and would've went on to KO Montell, just as Jon did to Eric. All this falls onto Eric. Had he said he could not continue, I'm sure the ref would have DQed Jon. As I have said, I did not see it, so I don't know for sure, but hopefully this gets resolved soon, but if Boose does get his title back, his title will be tainted. I had the somewhat same situation happen to me. I got Koed, but won the fight on an illegal shot. Winning the title on your back is no good, and hopefully these guys get it on again, and I get the winner!

Posted by Ryan @ 10/09/2007 03:08 PM EST after witnessing the heavyweight title fight at the lucky eagle it is very obvious that not all fighters play by the rules. i feel there should be an investigation into the ref & the wash. state athletic licensing dept.
Posted by gary @ 10/08/2007 09:30 PM EST This is addressed to a Mr.David that left the 1st comment here.I think we all agree here that when playing a sport, everyone involved should abide by the rules of the game.I was there sir and this was truly an injustice. This so called "ref" has done this before in a previous fight and should not ref a title match again until he has been back to ref school. As far as the homer comment goes, save the name calling for the playground. Love, Melissa
Posted by Melissa @ 10/08/2007 05:22 PM EST If the only way a person can "win", is to hit a man when he's down, he's no winner. Even Eric says that Williams got him good on the first punch, it was a good hit. It was the hits when Eric were down that were wrong. And obviously the above stated comment is totally wrong. The ref was an idiot who should have been doing his job, and been between the two fighters, not standing off to the side. He should have been the one to stop the fight, not Eric's Trainer/Manager. The truth will come out when they take the title away from Too Sweet and give it back to my son in law, Eric Boose, NIGHT TRAIN!!
Posted by Tricia @ 10/08/2007 12:37 PM EST Scoreboard!!! Sucker punched while he was getting up? Why was he down, oh yeah he got punched really hard in the head. If it was that bed that ref would have called the fight. Come on, why would a 6-5 challenger get the benefit of the doubt. What a homer.
