10/15/2007 Archived Entry: "Baby Bull Wants Pac Man"

Press Release - After Chomping Up Another Belt, Baby Bull Wants Pac Man
Postfight Comments from Diaz vs. Diaz

Juan Diaz (33-0, 17 KOs) “I thought Julio was going to box me more but he came to fight. That surprised me. I was able to lure him into my kind of fight, a toe to toe action fight. Julio had decent power which also surprised me.

It’s great if (Manny) Pacquiao moves up to the lightweight limit of 135 pounds. I’d like to show my talents against a fighter of his skills. Pacquiao just fought an older Mexican warrior. Now he ought to fight a young Mexican warrior like me.

Joel Casamayor wants to fight everybody. He’s an older fighter. I’d rather fight the best young fighters out there.”

Julio Diaz (34-4, 25 KOs) “I couldn’t get started tonight. Juan has a lot of energy. I tightened up when I tried to overpower him. Juan’s a hyper kid with a lot of heart.

“My brother Joel in my corner thought I was getting to hit too much, so he stopped the fight after the eighth round. It was Juan's night tonight.”

Mike Mollo (19-1, 12 KOs) How did you feel tonight?: “Unbelievable, super aggressive like a pit bull. Binkowski ran his mouth so much before the fight I had to shut him up. I would have died in the ring before I lost to him.

“Now I want Golota.”

John Ruiz (42-7-1, 29 KOs) “I felt a little rusty tonight and butterflies because it’s been a while. This guy [Otis Tisdale] tonight helped me get out the cobwebs.

“I wanted Liakhovich but I guess he didn’t want to fight. I hope my performance tonight jumps me over Liakhovich in the rankings. I’d like to fight Valuev in an elimination bout and then go on to face Chagaev. That’s my plan. I want to win a third heavyweight title.”

Devon Alexander (13-0, 8 KOs) “I pacing myself, working on sitting down on my punches to get more power. My coach Kevin Cunningham wants more knockouts and I got him one in the first round tonight.

“Now I want to fight DeMarcus Corley.”
