Apologies to Jerry Seinfeld notwithstanding, this is a question which begs an explanation from those in the hallowed halls of Canastota. We as fight fans have long rattled the old noggin looking for an answer, some criteria or a semblance of reality in trying to determine why some fighters have entered boxing valhalla and why others have remained on the outside looking in. This dissertation seeks to laud one of those gracing boxing limbo. So, without further ado, Ladies and Gentlemen and fight fans around the world, allow me to introduce to you the former Lightweight champion of the world and one of the most underrated fighters of all time, Rodolfo 'El Gato' Gonzalez.

One could almost hear a simultaneous eyebrow raising as El Gato's name is mentioned and it might be understandable. Afterall, he never trash-talked his opponents, cheap-shotted them during pre-fight instructions, took a stool to the referee, accused his opponents of not being real Mexicans, participated in bar fights, chewed on his opponents appendages in the clinches, mistreated women or ended up as a poster child in the daily tabloids. All he did was win.
