CHICAGO - A familiar face in Chicago boxing is running for the position of the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.

That would be Matthew Podgorski, seen at left, who, like his father, Pete Podgorski, has served as a boxing referee. Podgorski also worked as a boxing judge for a minor WBF title in 1999 while he was attending Northeastern Illinois university for his undergraduate degree. He received a Masters in Public Policy from Pepperdine University in April 2004 and serves as a Continuous Improvement Manager for Kraft Foods. He also teaches political science part-time as a part-time adjunct professor at Northeastern Illinois University.

Podgorski graduated from Holy Cross High School at age 17 in River Grove, Illinois in May of 1998.

However, Podgorski wasn't merely hitting his books in high school; he won the Chicago Golden Gloves in 1997. This led to judging amateur boxing shows, which he began at age 18. He judged amateur bouts held in the Chicago Park District, private shows and the Chicago Golden Gloves.
