Escalante vs. Beranza & Resto vs. Tapia Headline Tonight on TeleFutura's Solo Boxeo
Escalante (16-2, 10 KO’s), a native of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, will take on the experienced Jose Angel Beranza (30-11-2, 25 KO’s) from Mexico City, Mexico, in a ten-round bout. Due to their similar styles, the duel between Escalante and Beranza is expected to be competitive and explosive. The fight will be aired on TeleFutura’s “Solo Boxeo” beginning at 8:00 p.m. EST/8:00 p.m. PST. Tickets priced at $100, $75 and $40 can be purchased at the door of The Castle at Park Plaza. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
The evening’s televised co-main event will be an eight-round welterweight bout between Jeffrey Resto (20-2, 13 KO’s), a Bronx, New York native of Mexican and Puerto Rican decent, against Tijuana, Mexico native, Humberto Tapia (12-5-1, 5 KO’s).
“Antonio Escalante has reconnected with the explosive skills he was known for at the beginning of his career,” said Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar de la Hoya. “He represents a true threat to the junior featherweight division champions and is on track to compete for a world title.”
Escalante has continued to develop throughout his career and in his last bout on September 7, 2007, he scored an impressive fifth round knock-out victory over Columbian Feider Viloria (21-2-1, 15KO’s). Beranza is coming off of a hard fought decision loss against former World Bantamweight Champion, Jhonny Gonzalez, on November 16, 2007 and will attempt to get back into the win column on February 8.
The rest of the card is full of exciting young local Boston area talent including super middleweights Edwin Rodriguez (1-0) and Fitzgerald Johnson (1-2, 1 KO) in a four-round duel; Sean Eklund (4-2, 1 KO) battles Jose Velasquez (0-1) in a four-round junior welterweight clash; Tony Lamonica (4-0, 3 KO’s) faces Scorn Hatcher (0-3) in a four-round junior welterweight bout; super middleweight Eddie Caminero (2-0, 2 KO’s) against Kevin Barlett (0-2) in a four-round bout; and Phil Miller (2-0, 1 KO) taking on Justin Callaway (0-1) in a four-round heavyweight fight.
