Forbes to Challenge De La Hoya

The Portland Tribune

Feb. 19, 2008

Portland, OR native Steve “2-Pound” Forbes is in for the biggest fight of his boxing life May 3. That’s when he’ll face six-time world champion Oscar De La Hoya at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., in a 150-pound bout to be televised on regular HBO.

The 30-year-old Forbes is 33-5 with nine knockouts. De La Hoya (38-5, 30 KOs), 34, hopes to use this fight as a tuneup for a September rematch with unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Promoters say this will be the last fight in the L.A. area for De La Hoya, who is from East Los Angeles and won a gold medal in the 1992 Olympics.
