Aaron Williams stands over Andre Purlette in his electrifying victory in April

LAS VEGAS--Hot cruiserweight prospect, “Awesome” Aaron Williams (17-0-1, 12KO’s), returns to ESPN 2, Friday, May 23rd at the Twin Rivers Event Center in Lincoln, RI.

“The action promises to be explosive,” Classic Entertainment and Sports (CES) promoter Jimmy Burchfield said. “Aaron Williams really is awesome. His devastating knockouts of opponents have been showcased on ESPN, not only on its Friday Night Fights shows, but over and over again on Sports Center.”

Williams electrified a national audience on his last ESPN 2 appearance, April 4th, with a sensational second round stoppage of former NABO champion Andre Purlette.

“I’m very excited to be headlining an ESPN 2 card,” Williams said from his Las Vegas training camp.” I’m equally as excited about having this opportunity before my adopted hometown of Providence.”

This will be Williams’ third appearance on ESPN 2 in the past year. It will be the sixth appearance in New England for the Las Vegas resident.

Williams’ opponent for the 10 round “Friday Night Fights” main event is hard hitting Jose Luis Herrera (15-4, 15 KO’s).

In his last fight, Herrera KO’d, WBO world title challenger, George Blades in the 3rd round.

Williams is trained by former WBA light heavyweight champion Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. Muhammad said his young charge is ready for his main event debut.

“Training camp has been excellent,” said Muhammad. “Aaron’s had a lot of good sparring and we’ve been doing our roadwork at Mount Charleston. He’s in great shape.”

Muhammad is also the trainer of WBC light heavyweight champion “Bad” Chad Dawson.

“Our expectation is for Aaron to put on another sizzling performance on May 23rd,” said Williams’ co-manager, Albert Falcon. “Aaron brings excitement and boxing skill that belie a 22 year old prizefighter.”

“The Cruiserweight division is one of the most talent laden weight classes in boxing,” Falcon continued. “Aaron is a humble, respectful young man who does his talking in the ring and, on May 23rd, you’re going to see a lot of talking.”

The May 23rd bout will mark Williams’ third fight this year. A showdown with NABO champion Ola Afolabi was scraped when Afolabi and his camp turned down the challenge.

An ESPN bout with Eric Fields was also shelved when Fields rejected a June showdown with Williams.

Tickets for “Ring Warriors” are priced at $25.00, $35.00, $50.00, (Bronze), $65.00 (Silver), $100.00 (Gold) and limited $150.00 (Jimmy’s Platinum Club) and are available to purchase by calling CES (401.724.2253/2254), going on line at www.cesboxing.com or www.twinriver.com, at the Twin River Event Center (100 Twin River Road, Lincoln, RI), or any TicketMaster location.
