OSCAR DE LA HOYA has launched a new book and, in celebration of it, is in doing a book-signing tour around the U.S.

From one of the most celebrated fighters in the history of boxing comes AMERICAN SON (HarperEntertainment; on-sale now; $25.95), a touching memoir about achieving the American Dream, by Oscar De La Hoya with Steve Springer. De La Hoya offers insight into his personal and professional life — his rise to the top, the pitfalls of stardom in a celebrity obsessed culture, the tragic and painful passing of his mother from cancer, as well as a very personal take on how important being an American is to him.

The son of Mexican-born parents, De La Hoya (The Golden Boy) is one of the most beloved athletes in America, and one of the greatest boxers of all time, defeating over a dozen world champions, winning ten world titles and an Olympic gold medal. He’s had an astonishing career that goes from boxing to business — from his Grammy Award nominated album to the vast charitable accomplishments of his foundation. De La Hoya’s success is a testament to what one can achieve in the United States, and in this vein he has become an inspirational figure for millions.

Having already started his multi-city book tour, the following cities are those still remaining where fans are welcome to come, meet Oscar and have their books signed. However, he will not have time to sign any memorabilia so please leave it at home.

In AMERICAN SON, De La Hoya talks about:

· Immigrant roots, and the complexities of being Mexican-American at a time when being Hispanic in America comes with many misperceptions. De La Hoya traces the migration of his family from Mexico to the barrio of East L.A. and fondly remembers the long, lazy days he spent on periodic trips back to the old country.

· Winning the Olympic gold medal for his deceased mother. He opens up about the heart-wrenching experience of watching her die from breast cancer, his vow to win the gold for her, his struggles to do so and the day he literally brought that gold medal to her grave.

· Memorable fights. He puts the reader in the ring for his famous matches, from Julio Cesar Chavez to Felix Trinidad to Floyd Mayweather, and provides behind-the-scenes anecdotes about other matches.

· Money. He shows the difficulties of being the Golden Boy, a teenager suddenly worth millions, trying to separate the good guys from the shysters, and what has led to his establishing a burgeoning business empire.

· Family. He discusses his kids, both in and out of wedlock, his therapy sessions and the ultimate happiness he has discovered with his beloved wife Millie and their two young children.

AMERICAN SON is a story that can only take place in America, of an immigrant’s son, one that chronicles an amazing life and provides readers with new insight into the private life of a figure who has to many, reached iconic status.
