Boxer David Torres Now a Promotional Free Agent

Press Release

Northwest prospect David Torres and promoter Brian Halquist have parted ways after a lengthy promotional relationship. According to Torres’ Manager, Saul Rodriguez, the split came on good terms. “After four years the contract ended,” said Rodriguez, “we couldn’t negotiate a new contract and split on amicable terms. We hope to fight in Washington again in the near future, but as of right now we are exploring other options.”

Torres, who hails from Othello, Washington, has fought the vast majority of his career under the Halquist Productions banner, amassing a record of 20-1 and 13 KOs. Most recently he suffered his first defeat as a pro, losing via fifth round TKO to former IBF lightweight titleholder Julio Diaz in California. Torres is currently in Houston, Texas helping Juan “The Baby Bull” Diaz prepare for his September bout with Michael Katsidis.

Saul Rodriguez, owner of SR Sports Inc., believes he has a special fighter in Torres and plans on keeping him busy in the future. “He needs to stay busy,” said Rodriguez, “He’s a good, tough fighter and I want to keep him busy, its just matter of finding the right promoter.”

Rodriguez also manages Marvin Cordova Jr., who will be fighting this Saturday for the NABA 140 lbs. title. SR Sports Inc. recently added Carlos Molina to its growing stable of fighters. Molina, an upset specialist who recently surprised Donald Camarena, will be making a move down to 140 lbs. in his next fight.
