1) Q&A : Now that you have a long term management deal with Cestus Management, how do you feel, I know that Cestus has a lot fights in the pipeline, how long do you think it before you will be looking to challenge for a minor title.
BABY COBRA: I can’t describe what I am the feeling, just knowing that I have a long term deal with Cestus makes me feel like I’m Superman. After I take apart destroy and knockout my opponent on August 29th, then my manager Cestus Management will tell me what the next move will be. I told my managers and now I’m telling you, anyone that steps in the ring with me will be completely destroyed, will i execute them and that’s how I take care of business in the ring.
As far as fighting for a Title Cestus will make that decision, all they have to do is point me in the right direction, but the sooner the better, like I said my job is to fight and win and every opponent that steps into the ring with me I will painfully execute………….. Cestus Management knows when I will be ready to fight for any Title, if they say I am ready to fight for a Title or if they say I have to fight KING KONG then that’s what ILL do, if they say I’m not ready then I will wait until they say the time is right to fight KING KONG ( ha ha ).
Cestus Management are true people who understand me and know their business inside out and i trust them with everything, they treat me like I am family and they give me what I need to make a difference to myself not only as a fighter; they are a powerhouse company in professional boxing and I know they will take me to the World Title.
2) Q&A : With all the terrible decisions in boxing at the moment with all the technology do you think there is a better way to score fights, boxers train too hard and put themselves through too much to be robbed of victory from the judges when the rest of the world sees them as the winner of the fight ?
BABY COBRA: My honest opinion on judging in Boxing, don’t leave it to the judges I intend to let my fists be my judges, that’s what I’m Gonne do. But if my fight should go to a judges decision my opponent will be so busted up and beaten that their will be no doubt who the winner is.
3) Q&A : What are your ambitions in the sport, obviously everyone who puts on a pair of boxing gloves dreams of being world champion, realistically how far do you think you can go ?
BABY COBRA: I will be a become a World Champion there is no doubt about that and I will win the World Title for my father and my uncle who got a raw deal throughout their careers, who should have been World Champions but didn’t get a fair shake. So I will avenge both of them and show the world that the Gomez family are a true fighting pedigree bloodline and also are of World Champion pedigree and whoever thinks I talk big, I really don’t care.
I also wanna be involved in classic rivalries and classic fights, that will be talked about for years where I dominate and destroy my opponents like Margarito destroyed Cotto. When I fight for the World Title I will show up for the fight like Marvin Hagler used to and beat my opponent so bad that he is not even thinking about winning all he will have on his mind is surviving, before I make him quit or knock him out.
I also want to put everybody on notice that my job is to fight and I take my job very seriously and I don’t intend to lose my job or get fired, so whoever gets in my way of my road to the top I will brutally remove him in a heartbeat.
4) Q&A : You look like you are a freak of nature 6 ft 3 “ weighing 147 pounds that must be scary for any opponent ?
BABY COBRA: Everybody tells me I am big and that I will grow, well I am only 19 years old and I stand 6f’ foot 3” inches in height and i have a 79” reach, if that’s scary for the opponents that I will fight, then that’s great because they need to be scared and ready for the beating I’m going to give them.
I sound like I am cocky but I believe in myself so much and Cestus believes in me so much that I feel that any opponent given the chance comes to win so must I break them down with everything I have and that includes my psychological warfare weapons that I have which is also a part of what I use.
The other weapons that I have is to be surrounded with the right people the who have the right back up in place and that is what Cestus Management the right back up, they are the Commandeering Chief and I am the special force Since I signed with Cestus, I feel like I’m unstoppable and my opponents very shortly will be painfully finding out that fact.
5) Q&A : Which is your proudest moment in boxing ?
BABY COBRA: First watching my Dad Rodolfo “ LA COBRA” Gomez Sr fight, second watching my uncle Manuel “SHOTGUN” Gomez fight and third signing with Cestus Management. I just wanne tell everybody about my family , my father had everything talent desire, heart, balls and the chin that was good enough to win a World Title hold it and defend it; my uncle is one of the most ferocious and brutal punchers and was very underrated technically as a boxer who also could have won a World Title; but what they didn’t have was the correct guidance and influence that is needed in boxing and that’s their story.
I will succeed and make it in boxing, because I have the examples of what happened to both my Dad and my Uncle Manuel and I have their support and experience not to make the same mistakes that they did. My uncle Manuel is my trainer and my Dad is his assistant, it really is a great situation for me and the icing on the cake is I can concentrate on my training and what opponent I will destroy because Cestus Management is taking care of business outside of the ring, so I really love the situation that I am in.
I feel very lucky to have all of this happening to me, I know I have a long way to go and this only the beginning and everybody after reading this interview will think this kid has a big mouth he is nothing or I am out of my mind for believing in myself……this is my message to everybody that has read this interview and has negative thoughts about me, you all just read an interview with Rodolfo “BABY COBRA” Gomez who is going to become a future World Champion, so take it to the bank with you.
6) Q&A : Who do you think is currently top of the tree in the Welterweight division ?
BABY COBRA: Here is my line up you have to say that Antonio Margarito is the No 1 Welterweight as we speak, No 2 is Paul Williams, Miguel Cotto, Oscar De la Hoya, Shane Mosley and Joshua Clottey I think it’s the most action packed division at the moment division and I think that Margarito is one tough Champion and the other fighters in the division will probably give boxing some real good fights, I think De la Hoya would have probably beaten all of these fighters 7-8 years ago but I think its over for him as a fighter.
Cestus said to me that they will establish me as a fighter from now until the end of 2009 and then Cestus will make their move and then if I am still at that weight and haven’t grown, every Welterweight or Junior Middleweight will need to know and get ready because an express train will be coming through and its name is “BABY COBRA
7) Q&A : What is the best fight you have ever seen ?
BABY COBRA: Marvelous Marvin Hagler is the best fighter of all time I think all of his fights are classics and he fights Orthodox and Southpaw he is the full package and he defiantly beat Sugar Ray Leonard. When Hagler used to fight it was electric, my favorite fight of all time is Hagler vs Hearns I have to watch that fight at least twice a week, it’s a classic.
8) Q&A : If you were offered a million dollars in cash or a shot at the title of your choice, against the opponent and at the venue of your choice which would you take, if the fight which title where and who against ?
BABY COBRA: I don’t know what a million dollars is or even looks like but I do know what a pair of boxing gloves looks like and what a ring outfit is and what a boxing ring is and without what my job is, I’m not kidding myself I know that I have to go to the ring and get my million dollars with my two fists. I would defiantly without even thinking fight for the World Title in Las Vegas where all the big fights take place, I just can’t wait to do that.
9) Q&A : Who is your favorite boxer of all time ?
BABY COBRA: You know the answer to that question Marvelous Marvin Hagler of course who else his a real hardcore fighter who is no nonsense and did his job properly and became a World Champion and that’s exactly how I’m going to be, do my job properly; Hagler is the best and I will tell you again he clearly beat Sugar Ray Leonard.
10) Q&A : When you retire how would you like people to remember you?
BABY COBRA: I just want to be respected and be treated right and not have to struggle and just be acknowledged for what I did that’s all and a as a Champion that gave everybody good value for money when he crushed his opponents.
At the end of the day everybody will remember me for what I did and for what I didn’t do and that’s all you can do, but I am sure I will be remembered more for what I did because its gonne be a lot.
11) Q&A : Which Sanctioning body do you think is the best WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO ?
BABY COBRA: I don’t know which is the best and I don’t really care all I know is if I fight for one of their Titles who ever is the Champion I will beat so that will be my favorite Sanctioning Body. I just hope I have the opportunity to fight for all of the Titles, which not to many fighters get that chance, normally you only fight for one or two belts if your lucky; so I will do my best to fight for all the belts;
Mike Michael of Cestus Management said to me, to beat everyone first you have to conquer yourself and that takes the biggest balls of all, so now I feel I am in the process of conquering myself and finding out and learning what I can really do as a fighter , that advice that Mr Michael gave me has really stuck in my mind, I think about it all the time; so I am really focused to make things happen and like Mr Michael says the Sky is the limit. So I know with hard work I will be a World Champion so I don’t really care which World sanctioning body it is.
12) Q&A: Which Boxer has inspired you the most in your career ?
BABY COBRA: I cant talk about who is inspiring me, but I can tell you who my heroes are in Boxing, First its my Dad and then its my uncle Manuel these two guys are my heroes and it doesn’t get any more hardcore in boxing than these two guys, if I’m going to talk about another fighter its got to be Marvelous Marvin Hagler and that’s it, but my Dad and my uncle Manuel are at the top of my list.
