'Baby Bull' Geared to Gore Katsidis!

By Karl Hegman

The former Unified Lightweight Boxing Champion of the World, Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz (33-1, 17 KO's), makes his ring return in front of his hometown Houston fans fighting for the first time under the Golden Boy Promotional banner on Saturday, September 6th at the Toyota Center in downtown Houston.

He knows he is in for a tough fight with his opponent, former WBO Interim Lightweight Champion Michael Katsidis (23-1, 20 KO's), but is confident of a big victory. “Katsidis is tough and can punch hard, but he is basically a one-dimensional type of fighter that moves straight in and straight out, which is the exact style that is tailor-made for my style as I have too many weapons for this guy.”

“My jab and counterpunching abilities, and better all around boxing skills and conditioning will be the difference come the 6th. I have had a great camp and terrific sparring, and my conditioning trainer, Bryan Caldwell has my cardio and stamina the best it has been since I turned professional, and I can’t wait to get in that ring and give it to Katsidis in my hometown of Houston which is where I hold the line!” states Diaz.

“Katsidis has never beaten a contender, gets hit clean way too much and busts up real easy as well. Juan just has too many weapons for this guy!” says Diazs’ manager, the renowned Willie Savannah. Diaz does indeed appear to be razor sharp in his punches and very prepared and determined after I took a look at him at the Savannah Boxing Club and Youth Association in Southwest Houston where he trains daily.

The former champion grunts as he hits the pads with trainer Ronnie Shields and whacks away at the body bag and heavy bags as he goes about his daily training ritual as the sparring and real heavy work has been concluded and he is at his peak form. “I am glad to be with Golden Boy Promotions,” says Diaz, “Richard Schaefer is a real gentleman with class that wants the best for his fighters and for boxing, and Oscar is just a great man and great fighter that has done so much good for the sport of boxing!” concludes the “Baby Bull.”

Also on the card, tough Houstonian Rocky Juarez looks to get back in the win column against former super featherweight champion, Oscar Larrios. The free swinging Argentinean poses a real threat to Juarez, but Juarez and trainer Shields are confident in victory on September 6th. This fight has the potential to be an epic battle between a fighter in Larrios who punches from the outside in vs. a fighter in Juarez who throws short and compact shots behind a tight defense.

The card will be televised internationally by HBO and is a can’t miss for fight fans and sports fans in general.

If you like your ring action hot and heavy, this card is for you!

See you at the fights!
