Local middleweight prospect Donnie Orr scored a workmanlike sixth round stoppage over veteran opponent Luis Maysonet at The Roxy Nightclub in Boston. Maysonet quit on his stool after being pounded on the ropes by Orr for most of the sixth round. Orr is now 14-0 (five knockouts) and Maysonet falls to 32-11 (25 kayoes).

Maysonet, a veteran of 17 years professional experience, who has fought world level opponents, Hector Camacho Sr. and Thomas Damgaard, gave a good account of himself in the early rounds. He used his jab to fight on nearly even terms with Orr in the first round, and he connected repeatedly with sharp left hooks to the head in rounds two and three. It was obvious from the beginning, however, that Maysonet’s experience would not be enough to overcome his opponent’s big advantages in youth and strength.

In round four, Maysonet’s strength faded noticeably as Orr connected frequently with hurtful left jabs. Near the end of the round Orr stunned Maysonet with a big right hand and from this point going forward it just a matter of time before he finished his foe.

Orr, 160 lbs., continued to press his attack in round five, as Maysonet’s punch output fell dramatically and he sought to hold as much as possible. In the sixth, Orr pinned Maysonet to the ropes and belabored him with strong hooks from both hands, thrown to the head and body. Maysonet, 160 lbs., survived the onslaught by moving his upper-body effectively to dodge punches, but his strength was sapped and he was unable to escape being pinned to the ropes by his opponent.

The 37-year-old Maysonet, of Springfield, Massachusetts, has fought most of his career as a welterweight. Even though he weighed as much as Orr for tonights fight it was obvious that he lacked the physical strength to resist his opponent, who is a natural middleweight. Orr, 31 years old, is a Canadian native who is now living in South Boston, Massachusetts. He fought for Canada in the 2000 Olympic Games.

Promoter Rich Cappiello is now seeking to match Orr in a regional title fight in order to give him more seasoning before pursuing a world championship fight in another year.

UNDERCARD BOUTS

In a junior middleweight bout, Derek Silveira stopped Mike Badgett at 1:11 of the first round. Silveira took complete control of the fight from the opening bell, blasting Badgett with quick combinations en route to scoring two knockdowns before the referee ended the match. Silveira’s body punching was particularly effective. Silveira weighed 150 lbs. and is from Byfield, Massachusetts; his record is now 1-0. Badgett, of Caswell, North Carolina, weighed 147 lbs., and his record falls to 0-2.

Ryan “The Polish Prince” Kielczweski, 130 lbs., won a unanimous four round decision over Luis Rosario in a junior lightweight contest. Kielczweski relied on his faster hands and superior boxing ability to dominate Rosario with left jabs and left hooks in every round. All three judges scored the match 40-36 for Kielczweski. The CBZ also scored the match 40-36 for Kielczweski, who is now 2-0 (0 knockouts) and hails from Quincy, Massachusetts. Rosario, 123 lbs., is from Worcester, Massachusetts and his record is now 4-12 (2 knockouts).

Phil “Killa” Miller (pictured below on left), 213 lbs., won a unanimous four round decision over Orion Sistrunk 254 lbs., in a heavyweight contest. There was little action in the bout but Miller was able to outfight his opponent for most of the match due to his sharper, quicker punching. The judges scored the match 40-36, 39-37, and 39-37 for the Providence, Rhode Island native, who is now 4-0 (2 kayo es) as a pro. The CBZ favored Miller by a margin of 40-36. Sistrunk, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, falls to 5-24-1 (1 kayo).

Kali “Mequinoag” Reis made her pro debut by stopping Bessie Rowell 1:16 of round two. Reis, of Providence, Rhode Island, weighed 153 lbs. and she is now 1-0. Rowell, 151 lbs., hails from Virginia and her record is now 0-2.

In a battle of heavyweights, Rashad Minor, 291 lbs., stopped Joel-Eduardo Jaquez-Colon at 38 seconds of the first round. Jaquez-Colon 229 lbs., was absorbing punishment without fighting back when the referee waived the bout off. Minor is from Worcester, Massachusetts and his record is now 1-0 (1 knockout). Jaquez-Colon, of Springfield, Massachusetts, is now 0-1.

Local junior welterweight Simeon Dunwell, 140 lbs., advanced his record to 8-0 (2 kayoes) by winning a unan imous six round decision over Jason Jordan, 140 lbs. The judges favored Dunwell by scores of 60-54, 60-54, and 59-55. The CBZ scored the match for Dunwell, 60-54. Dunwell, of Lynn, Massachusetts, used effective bobbing-and-weaving tactics to force his way inside of his taller opponent for most of the match. Dunwell maintained control of the fight with crisp overhand rights and left hooks to the head. Jordan is from Akron, Ohio, and his record falls to 6-23-3 (4 kayoes).

In a junior lightweight bout, Frankie Trader, 131 lbs., won a unanimous four round decision over Jose Velasquez, 132 lbs. Trader used his crisp combination punching, superior hand and foot speed and advantages in boxing ability to dominate Velasquez in every round. Velasquez, of Worcester, Massachusetts, fought a game bout, but he lacked the quickness necessary to beat the slick Trader. All three judges scored the bout 40-36 in favor of Trader, which concurs with The CBZ's scorecard. Trader, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is now 2-0 (0 knockouts). Velasquez falls to 1-4 (1 knockouts).
