World Boxing Hall of Fame: The end of 2008 is huge for Miguel Diaz.

Press Release

Aside from being hired by Manny Pacquiao for the biggest fight of his career, Miguel Diaz is being inducted into a World Boxing Hall of Fame on November 15th, 2008.

If you are a boxing fan, you are probably used to seeing his warm, fatherly face in the corners of numerous current and ex champions. Miguel Diaz is considered one of the best cut men in the industry; the list of boxers that recently used his services in that capacity is long and star studded: Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel Cotto, Kelly Pavlik, Ivan Calderon, Israel Vasquez, Ricardo Torres, James Toney, Jorge Arce, Oscar Larios, Erik Morales, Jose Luis Castillo and may many more.

Miguel was born in Argentina on February 21, 1938. His father, Miguel Diaz Sr., was a South American lightweight champion in the 1920s, but he did not want his son to follow in his footsteps as a professional boxer. Miguel started boxing at the age of eight and had 27 amateur fights, but never fought as a professional.

Mr. Diaz began his career as a boxing trainer and a cut man in 1974. He met his first charge Jesus”Chuy” Meza in a restaurant in Las Vegas .

“Hey, Chuy, you move like a fighter,” said Diaz, when he first saw him.

“I am a fighter,” replied Meza.

“Are you fighting right now?” said Diaz.

“No. I just came from Mexico,” said Meza.

He was looking for a trainer, so Diaz offered his services. That’s how they got started. They had twelve professional fights together. Some of the other fighters liked the way he trained Chuy and they started working with Miguel too. They were all training in Johnny Tocco’s, the only gym in Las Vegas at that time.

Miguel has now worked as a trainer, assistant trainer, or a cut man in over 200 world championship fights.

Miguel Diaz is being inducted in World Boxing Hall Of Fame on November 15th,2008 at the Banquet of Champions at LAX Marriott, located at 5855 West Century Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90045. Social hour will begin at 6:00 pm, followed by dinner and induction ceremony at 8:00 pm.

Dinner tickets are priced at $100.00, $150.00 and $200.00. For ticket information and all the details call: 626- 964-2414 or visit official Website at www.wbhf.org.
