Aaron Davis is the New Boxing Commissioner of New Jersey!

Indiana Boxing Commissioner Jake Hall has informed us that Aaron Davis, who currently serves as the Kansas Boxing Commissioner, has been named the new boxing commissioner of New Jersey.

In an email Hall forwarded us from the Association of Boxing Commissions' president, Tim Lueckenhoff, the following was stated:

"I am sure most of you have heard that Aaron Davis, the Director of Kansas has accepted the Commissioner position in New Jersey. On behalf of the entire membership, I want to wish Aaron the best of luck. His last day in Kansas will be next Monday October 20th."

This is further substantiated by the following press release from the State of New Jersey's Office of the Attorney General:

State Athletic Control Board Confirms Appointment of New CommissionerKansas Boxing Commissioner Aaron Davis will be top boxing official in New Jersey

Trenton, NJ – Attorney General Anne Milgram today announced the appointment of Aaron M. Davis, a native of Willingboro, NJ, who has been the Kansas boxing commissioner for the last four years, as the new Commissioner of the State Athletic Control Board.

Davis will succeed Sylvester Cuyler, who has been the acting commissioner for the last 10 months. Davis’s appointment was confirmed today at a meeting in Trenton by State Athletic Control Board members Steven W. Katz and Dennis McDonough. Davis is scheduled to start on Oct. 27.

Davis was selected after a nationwide search. As Kansas Boxing Commissioner, Davis and the Kansas Athletic Commission, oversees boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and martial arts.

“Aaron’s management experience and background will ensure that New Jersey will continue to vigorously protect the safety of all participants in boxing, mixed martial arts and other combat sports, and promote public confidence and trust in our regulatory process,’’ Attorney General Milgram said. “I thank the board for confirming my appointment today.”

Davis, 39, has been the boxing commissioner in Kansas since 2005, managing the administration of the licensing process and enforcing rules and regulations. He has also been chairman of the Code of Conduct Committee of the Association of Boxing Commissioners for the last year. The association seeks uniformity of health and safety standards pertaining to professional boxing and other combat sports across the country.

Before becoming boxing commissioner, Davis was in sales and marketing at Topeka, Kansas, radio stations, managed a multi-sport instructional complex, and was an account executive for Southwestern Bell Telephone (SBC Communications) in Topeka.

He received a Bachelor of Science in the administration of Justice from Wichita State University in 1991 and worked as an admissions representative and the director of minority recruitment for two years at the university after graduation.

He worked for a community and school organization and coached junior varsity basketball and soccer at Wichita West High School for six years, and was the director of education at the Topeka Correctional Facility in 1999 and 2000.

“I am excited to return home to New Jersey and look forward to the new challenge as New Jersey’s Commissioner of the State Athletic Control Board,’’ Davis said.

Davis was raised in Willingboro, where his parents still reside.
