Brewster-Seldon, Other Boxing Matches at Conseco Fieldhouse Postponed!

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Relentless Events and CBelieve have announced the postponement of the heavyweight boxing matches scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 29 at Conseco Fieldhouse – including a feature fight with Indianapolis native and NABA heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster – until an indefinite date in 2009. Ticket holders may retain their tickets until a new date is established, or may return tickets for refund at the original point of purchase.

Brewster had contracted stomach flu in the final days leading up to the fight and would not be ready to compete on Saturday. Brewster fell ill suddenly and after consulting with a physician the determination was made that the fight could not go on as scheduled.

"I know a lot of people are going to be disappointed but I'm more disappointed because I was ready to go and put on a great show for my hometown fans," says the former WBO heavyweight champion. "I have been looking forward to fighting in Indianapolis for a long time now and for this to happen was just unfortunate.

"I contracted a virus that is going around. I don't know where I got it from but I hope to make this Seldon fight happen, maybe even before the end of the year. I want to thank my fans, the city of Indianapolis and Conseco Fieldhouse for their support and all the love I've received. I look forward to rescheduling the fight soon."

"Obviously we're extremely disappointed but under the circumstances that have taken place we understand and hope that we can battle Lamon soon," said Seldon's manager James Kurtz. "We're looking forward to working with Relentless Events again and rescheduling this in the near future."

Ticket holders may retain their tickets until a new date is established, or may return tickets for refund at the original point of purchase.

Brewster Visits Middle School to Speak with Local Teens

Lamon Brewster, center, visits with adoring students

Lamon Brewster, who grew up in the Haughville section of Indianapolis, understands firsthand how tough it is to develop positive self esteem in bleek surroundings. So when the opportunity to speak with a select group of children who face similar issues he did as a youngster arose, Brewster jumped on board immediately. Brewster took time out to visit John Marshall Middle School Tuesday morning and relate to the youth of the school who needed his attention the most.

The children chosen for the small group were considered "over/under", meaning that they were at least two grade levels behind other students of their age. Highlighted within the engagement were the values of respect, responsibility and always believing in yourself.

"The kids I grew up with who always wanted to prove how tough they were now work in McDonalds," Brewster told the children in the assembly hall. "When people try to give me a hard time I just let it go because I know what I can do, even if they don't."

"Does anyone here know what they want to be when they grow up?" Brewster asked the students.

"I want to be a football player," one youth replied.

"The way you're going to make it is by working very hard at it," Brewster told the children. "When I'm training for a fight and I hear that my opponent is doing 6 rounds of sparring in the gym, I do 8. When he's up at 5 in the morning running, I get up at 4. Through hard work and determination, anything is possible. "A lot of people told me I couldn't become heavyweight champion of the world, but I proved them all wrong. Never let anyone tell you that you can't achieve your dreams because I'm living proof that you can."
