PROVIDENCE (December 10, 2008) – New Bedford police officer and professional boxer, Jason “School Boy” Pires, was involved in a drugs and weapons bust Monday in his hometown.

Pires and two fellow New Bedford police officers responded to a domestic violence call and discovered, according to police reports, an array of assorted narcotics, paraphernalia and items consistent with what someone would use to perpetrate armed robberies and even impersonate a police officer. Two people were charged with unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to distribute in a school district, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of Percocet, conspiracy to violate drug laws and possession of a stun gun.

Former USBA bantamweight champion Pires (21-3, 9 KOs), promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc., returned to the ring November 29 after being idle for 5 ½ years to concentrate on becoming a police officer and completing his education at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. Jason’s comeback fight was a success as he won a 6-round welterweight bout by unanimous decision against Frank Houghtaling.
