Most of what is known about Black Fitzsimmons comes from the records of other fighters

During his career, he was in the ring with such men as Sam Langford, Frank Moran, Bob Armstrong, Jack "Twin" Sullivan, Dick O'Brien and Charles Haghey

A number of men used the moniker "Black Fitzsimmons" at the turn of the century and in the teens; Hopefully, this record contains bouts only for Ulysses Cannon
