Moran was was a sturdy man who possessed a hard right hand punch which he called "Mary Ann"; He fought twice for the Heavyweight Championship - against Jack Johnson and Jess Willard; Frank was a White Hope of the teens

He studied dentistry in college at the University of Pittsburgh, where he also played football; Afterwards, he played professional football for the Pittsburgh Lyceums; He enjoyed a career in motion pictures after retiring from the ring

During his career, Moran defeated such men as Fred Cooley, Black Fitzsimmons, Ed "Thunderbolt" Smith, George "Kid" Cotton, Tom Cowler, Fred Storbeck, Harry Wuest, Jim Cameron, Charles Horn, Al Palzer, "Bombardier" Billy Wells, Jim Coffey, "Denver" Jack Geyer, Paul Journee, Frank Goddard and Joe Beckett
