Griffith was a popular boxer who came to fight; He was alert and quick to seize an advantage; He hit with two fast hands, was not an over-powering hitter yet had plenty of firepower; During his career, He won the Middleweight Championship of the World, the Junior Middleweight Championship of the World, the Welterweight Championship of the World and engaged in 23 World Championship bouts (perhaps 24, depending upon your count)

Emile defeated such men as Nino Benvenuti, Joey Archer, Don Fullmer, Dick Tiger, Ralph Dupas, Luis Rodriguez, Holly Mims, Benny "Kid" Paret, Denny Moyer, Gaspar Ortega, Teddy Wright, Tom Bogs, "Gypsy" Joe Harris, Isaac Yogart, Yama Bahama, Stanley "Kitten" Hayward, Armando Muniz, Florentino Fernandez, Willie Toweel, Doyle Baird, Dick DiVeronica, Brian Curvis, Dave Charnley, Jorge Fernandez, Andy Heilman and Ernie Lopez

Herb Goldman ranked Griffith as the #6 All-Time Welterweight; Emile was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1985 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990
