Ouma Challenges Castillejo!
Press Release

New York, NY -Junior middleweight contender Kassim "The Dream" Ouma has a solution to the problems confronting the WBC and the IBF as to who should fight the winner of the March 13 junior middleweight unification fight between Shane Mosley and Winky Wright.

The WBC insists it will not sanction the Mosley-Wright fight unless both fighters agree that the winner will fight Javier Castillejo, the WBC Interim Champion.

The IBF insists the Mosley-Wright winner must fight Ouma, its No. 1 mandatory contender.

"Let me fight Castillejo on the undercard and the winner of our fight gets to fight the winner of Mosley vs. Wright," says Ouma. "That's a simple answer to a simple problem.

"If Castillejo thinks he's more deserving than me, let him prove it," he added. "I have no problem fighting him in another elimination fight. I'm used to it. I've already been in two eliminators so a third one would be fine."

Ouma's promoters, J Russell Peltz, of Peltz Boxing Promotions, Inc., and Dino Duva, of Duva Boxing, agree that Ouma's formula will address both the IBF and WBC mandatory positions and will preserve the title unification process.

Ouma, 25, of West Palm Beach, FL, secured the mandatory position in the IBF when he knocked out the No. 2-ranked J.C. Candelo in the 10th round Jan. 3 at the Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, CT. At the time of the Ouma/Candelo fight, Ouma was ranked #4 in the WBC and Candelo #6.

A pro since 1998, Ouma has a 19-1-2 record, 13 K0s. Castillejo, 35, of Madrid, Spain, is a former WBC champion who won the vacant title in 2000 by beating Tony Marshall and lost it in his second one defense when Oscar De La Hoya beat him one year later. He won the WBC Interim Title in 2002 when he beat Roman Karmazin.A pro since 1988, Castillejo has a 56-5 record with 38 K0s. He is only 3-3 in fights outside of Spain.
