Mexican Great Goyo Vargas Headlines Boxeo Chicago
April 30th from Elgin

Chicago, IL- Hitz Boxing brings the best Latino talent directly to the fans with the debut of their new series “Boxeo Chicago” on Friday, April 30th from Estrellas del Milennium (formerly La Movida nightclub) in Elgin, Illinois. Former WBC Featherweight Champion and Mexican superstar Goyo Vargas (44-8-1, 30 KOs) headlines this first in a monthly series.

The 33-year-old Vargas began his boxing career as a 17-year-old making his debut at the Arena Coliseo in Mexico City. Twenty-three bouts later, at the age of 21, Goyo became a Mexican star when he won the Mexican Featherweight Title from Ulysses Chong. Trained by his father Gregorio Vargas Sr., Goyo went on to defend his Mexican title seven times, gaining fans along the way as he fought in Mexico’s biggest cities.

In April of ’93, Goyo challenged for his first world title facing Irishman Paul Hodkinson in Dublin and won the WBC Featherweight title by 7th round knock out. Goyo’s Hall of Fame career continued with wins over 2x Champion Tracy Harris Patterson, Ben Tackie and Ricky Quiles.

On April 28th, Vargas faces Sean Fletcher (25-10, 19 KOs) in a 10-round Lightweight battle. Fletcher has been in with ring greats Cesar Soto, Angel Manfredy, Juan Manuel Marquez and David Santos.

Promoter Bobby Hitz said, “The Latin boxing fans are the most loyal and educated boxing fans in the world. Chicagoland has the second largest population of Latin-Americans in the country so I’m happy to bring them the kind of great fights that I know they appreciate. Goyo Vargas is just the first in a series of Mexican and Latin legends that I’m planning to bring to the area with the new Boxeo Chicago series.”
