STEVE "2 POUND" FORBES OUT TO REGAIN WORLD TITLE ON FOX SPORTS NET
Press Release
Chinook Winds Casino
LINCOLN CITY, Oregon-- Goossen Tutor Promotions is proud to present championship boxing, "The Commotion at The Ocean Back-To-Back" on Thursday, June 3 and Friday, June 4.  This doubleheader of world-class boxing will take place at Chinook Winds Casino and Convention Center.

The originally scheduled bout between former WBC middleweight champion Keith Holmes and Rodney Jones, which was set to punctuate the doubleheader on June 4, is out. Following a recent sparring session, Holmes injured his right hand.  "This is just a minor setback, I will again be world champion," stated the former middleweight king.In their nonstop effort to ensure an exciting replacement bout takes place on June 4, matchmaker Tom Brown was able to secure, in baseball terms, a major league save by slipping the always exciting former junior lightweight world champion and current #3 world contender from Portland, Oregon, Steve "2-Pounds" Forbes in the main event bout.In his first fight back since dropping a razor thin technical decision to world champion Carlos Hernandez, Forbes, 23-2 (5), is out to make his lightweight debut a spectacular one, by demonstrating to Arthur Cruz, 20-14-2 (10) why most experts recognize and respect him as one of the smoothest technicians in all of boxing.

"This is great.  I'm virtually fighting in my hometown, with my former promoter on Fox Sports Net, on my way to becoming a 2-time world champion, said an excited Forbes.  I was training for a fight in So. Africa that didn't materialize, while also sparring with DeMarcus Corley, so I'm ready to step back into the ring."Goossen and Forbes are rekindling a relationship that produced Forbes world championship victory on December 3, 2000.  "With the attention between the 130 and 140 pound division, Steve is one victory away from his showdown with one of the champions, Floyd Mayweather included," stated Goossen.Cruz, the current Colorado State Champion, is no slouch himself though.  He's already proven his mettle by giving some of the biggest talent in the division such as current world contenders Miguel Cotto and Juan Diaz all they could handle.  Cruz is anxious for his opportunity and feels he's getting Forbes at the right time.  "Fans know I come to fight.  Win, lose or draw it'll be a fight," stated Cruz. Also appearing on the June 4 card will be undefeated heavyweight PA Golden Glove champion Jason Gavern vs. once beaten National Golden Glove Champion Malcolm Tann.  The Gavern/Tann winner figures to continue their rise as one of the brightest young heavyweight stars.  Both big men have declared they're ready for war as they look to impress the fans as the future of boxing's most famous division. The action kicks off on June 3, when hard hitting featherweight sensation Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero, 12-0-1 (5) plans to remain unbeaten by trying to make the toughest test of his career, former world champion Enrique Sanchez, 30-2-4 (21) disappear. Guerrero-Sanchez will headline a live telecast on Showtime's hit series "ShoBox The New Generation."Only 21 years old, "The Ghost" is wise beyond his years in the ring.  A decorated amateur, Guerrero turned pro in 2001 and hasn't looked back, earning praise as one of the top prospects to watch in 2004 by USA Today. Hailing from Gilroy, California, the slick southpaw with dynamite in his fists recently scored another important victory of his young career when he stopped former world champion Juan Polo Perez in just two rounds on April 24.Sanchez a rugged warrior vows to test the skills of the rising star.  A 14-year veteran of the prize ring, the Mexico City native is a former NABF super bantamweight champion who won the WBA world 122-pound title in 1998 with a decision over Rafael Del Valle.  He is unbeaten since 2001, and promises to keep that streak intact on June 3 against the hard charging Guerrero.

"Sanchez has been very impressive throughout his career with his only two losses against a prime Marco Antonio Barrera and world champion Nestor Garza.  A victory for Guerrero catapults him immediately into the world championship picture.  It's these risk fights that make you or break you, and we feel he's got the goods" said Dan Goossen of Goossen Tutor Promotions.Doors open for both shows at 5:30 p.m. and the first bout begins at 6:45 p.m. Tickets for "The Commotion at the Ocean, Back-To-Back" are priced at $250, $150, $75, $55 and $35 are available by calling 1-888-Chinook. Chinook Winds Casino and Convention Center, located on the beach in Lincoln City, Oregon,  is owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians.
