‘Plymouth Rocks’ show dedicated to memory of boxer Dave HamiltonJune 11 at Memorial Hall

PLYMOUTH, Mass. (May 27, 2004) – “Plymouth Rocks,” a professional boxing show June 11 at Plymouth Memorial Hall, has been dedicated to the memory of boxer Dave “The Hammer” Hamilton, who recently died along with his five-year-old son, Marcus, in a single car accident.

Hamilton, of Hanson (MA), had a pro record of 15-12-2 (5 KOs) during his nine-year career. He was scheduled to fight a rematch against light heavyweight Mike Bonislawski on the “Plymouth Rocks” card.

“Nobody ever had a bad word to say about Dave,” promoter Karen Brennan Fontana said. “He was a tough fighter and a quiet gentleman outside the ring. My son, Geoff (Yalenezian), is a fighter who was very close with Dave. We wanted to do something, especially where Dave was supposed to fight June 11, so we’ve dedicated the show in his memory. We’re going to have a 50-50 raffle and proceeds will go to the Dave Hamilton, Jr. Scholarship Fund. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

Former Massachusetts junior welterweight title challenger, Jimmy “The Dream” LeBlanc (9-6-3, 3 KOs), headlines “Plymouth Rocks,” promoted by Brennan’s Smoke Shop, against William Foster (3-2-1, 1 KO), of New Haven (CT), in the eight-round main event. LeBlanc, of South Boston, during the past few months has had three relatively high-profile fights in a row fall apart, for reasons beyond his control, against New England light welterweight champion Jeff “Hell Raza” Fraza (15-2, 8 KOs), Dimitry “Star of David” Salita (18-0, 11 KOs) and Scott DePompe (25-5, 10 KOs).

Exciting junior middleweight Martin “The Irish Assassin” Thornton (7-1-1, 3 KOs), of Southie via Galway (Ireland), faces former WBF welterweight champion Bruce Corby, of Scranton (PA), in the six-round co-feature.

Veteran Danny Sheehan, of Brockton, is Bonislawski’s opponent in a six-round match. Sheehan has been in against the likes of Mario Veit, Joey DeGrandis, Richie LaMontagne, Daniel Judah, and Sean Fitzgerald. Bonislawski, of Cambridge, has fought Scott “The Sandman” Pemberton, John Scully and former two-time champion, "Irish" Steve Collins.

Junior middleweight Jose Medina (4-3, 1 KO), of Tilton (NH), squares off against 50-plus fight veteran Dennis “Boss Man” Burley, of Scranton (PA). Also fighting is an entertaining and unbeaten bantamweight, Denise “Mighty” Moses (3-0, 3 KOs), of Lawrence (MA). All bouts and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets, priced at $50.00 for reserved seats and $30.00 for general admission, may be purchased by going to www.plymouthmemorialhall.com or www.ticketweb.com, or at any of Brennan’s Smoke Shops. Advertising opportunities and sponsorship packages also are available. For more information call 508.746.5711 or 781.826.5773. Doors open at 7 pm, the first bout starts at 8 pm
