07/14/2004 Archived Entry: "Laila Ali Fights Nikki Eplion on Saturday, July 17th!"

The First Lady Of Boxing Makes a Summer Splash In Maryland! Laila Ali and Mark Johnson Headline Saturday Night PPV Fight Card.

LailaAli (7k image) Raging Promotions, in association with Absoloot Boxing is proud to present a classic, history-making boxing extravaganza. Ring royalty is coming to Bowie, Maryland. Laila “She Bee Stingin” Ali, the three time Super Middle- weight women’s champion brings her unique flare, flavor and fire to the Washington DC area. “The First Lady of Boxing” will jump in the ring for a summer showdown against Nikki Eplion (14-1) of South Pointe, Ohio on July 17, 2004 at Bowie Baysox Stadium, in Bowie, MD. Laila’s undefeated record and IBA title will be on the line.

Marty Wynn, the CEO of Raging Promotions says, “This is a major event for the Baltimore-Washington area, and we are extremely excited to have it. “The mere fact that this event is outdoors and at the state of the art Bowie Baysox Stadium might have folks reflecting back to when Laila’s daddy (Muhammad Ali) stunned the world in the epic open stadium battle with George Foreman in 1974, in the historic “Rumble in the Jungle” in Zaire”.

The last time Laila stepped into the ring she completely dominated, devastated and destroyed Christy Martin in Biloxi, Mississippi to improve her record to a perfect 16-0 with 13 knockouts. The Ali/Martin match-up was billed as “Who’s the greatest”, and pitted the two biggest names in the game. When the dust cleared, Laila Ali stood tall as clearly the preeminent force in women’s boxing. 10, 000 eyewitnesses and a pay-per-view audience saw Laila deliver the beat down and protect the family legacy.

Raging Promotions has emerged as an extraordinarily dynamic sports entertainment agency. The one-two punch of Wynn and his wife, former 5-time champion Isra Girgrah have in less than a year put together a most impressive promotional portfolio. Raging Promotions has produced 8 spectacular boxing shows including its most recent venture; a co promotion with Gary Shaw Promotions at the Kewadin Casino, Hotel and Convention Center in Saulte, St. Marie Michigan showcasing light heavyweight prospect Darnell “Ding –A-Ling Wilson’s national television debut on Showtime’s, ShoBox series.
