The site is the huge Kisstadion with a capacity of 15,000 seats. Local organizer of the event is Zsolt Damosy.
Erdei and Lakatus were already scheduled to face each other in May. But the Spaniard suffered a ripp injury in training and was replaced by Argentine Hugo Garay who then lost a twelve round decision to Erdei at Westfalenhalle of Dortmund. The Rumanian born Lakatus, 24-3-1 (18), showed up to German boxing fans for the first time in May 2001 when he gave then WBO champion Dariusz Michalczewski an extremely tough challenge. Lakatus was scoring effectively through the first couple of rounds and sometimes didn’t hesitate to use rough and dirty tactics. Michalczewski needed nine rounds until he landed his most effective shots to knock Lakatus out. On September 11 there will also be a boxing event of Universum Box-Promotion in Karlsruhe, Germany, with Regina Halmich in the main event. German TV channel ZDF will broadcast the main events from both fightcards time shifted. RTL Plus will broadcast the fight of Erdei live in Hungary. It will be Zsolt Erdei’s fourth professional fight in his home country. The former amateur world champion fought in Budapest in June 2001, in Debrecen in October 2002 and in Szeged in September 2003. Erdei captured the WBO 175 pound title in January when he defeated favorized Mexican Julio Cesar Gonzalez who had dethroned longtime champion Dariusz Michalczewski.
