FORMER AMATEUR STANDOUT DON "DA BOMB" GEORGE SPEAKS ON PRO DEBUT AT HAWTHORNE THIS FRIDAY NIGHT

Three time Chicago Golden Glove Champion Don "Da Bomb" George makes his pro debut this Friday nightSeptmber 10th as Dominic Pesoli's 8 Count Productions and Bob Arum's Top Rank Incorporated along with Miller Beer presents another installment of some of Chicagoland's finest professional boxing.

The Hawthorne Race Course is located at 35th and Laramie on the Chicago/Cicero border, just minutes from the Eisenhower and Stevenson expressways. Tickets, starting at $25, are available by calling 312-226-5800. Doors open at 6pm, with the first bout scheduled for 7pm.

The 19 year old George recently spoke about his amateur career after a sparring session at JABB Boxing Gym. Said George, "I've had quite a bit of success as an amateur (30-3 record), but feel my style is best for the professional ranks. There's just been too much politics within the amateurs and I'm not really interested in waiting four years for a shot at the Olympic team."

Having competed in four team sports while at Maine East High School in Niles, the Chicago born and raised George, said, "I enjoyed competing in basketball and football but I really enjoy the feeling of taking care of my own business, in boxing I just depend on myself.

George, coming from a boxing family, stated "my dad boxed, both my brothers, my uncle, it was easy for to pick it up and there all really proud of me."

Headlining the action packed night of professional boxing is a terrific junior welterweight showdown between Omar Weis, 36-4-3 (16KO's) and Arturo Morua, 18-6-1 (13KO's). The co-main event features local fan favorite, Al "Speedy" Gonzales, 14-1-1 (7KO's). Also appearing on the card is Illinois State Middleweight Champion, "Macho" Miguel Hernandez, 12-1 (7KO's), junior middleweight Rudy Cisneros, 1-1 (1KO) and middleweight Carlos Molina, 3-0-1 (1KO).

The open to the public weigh-in will be held at Luna Mexicana Restaurant, 3565 W. Fullerton on the north-west side of Chicago on Thursday, September 9th at 7pm.
