Maussa Ready To Punish Hatton
The 34-year-old unorthodox puncher – catapulted to prominence via a stunning seventh round knockout of ex-champ Vivian Harris – has proclaimed that despite technical differences, he and Hatton are cut from the same boxing cloth. “As different as my boxing is to Hatton's, I think we are similar warriors,” Maussa had said over the weekend. “That is why this will be a great, great fight. It could be fight of the year."
Maussa, a diligent, non-stop, attack-minded puncher, may meet his match in November’s foe Hatton. Similarly adept at chucking leather and giving no quarter, Hatton has mastered the art of crushing his opponents’ hearts.
Anything Ricky can do, Maussa will better, he insists. "I will throw 120 to 130 punches a round," the cocksure Colombian boasted. "Ricky Hatton is a strong fighter and comes forward to punch just like me. It will be a great fight. But he cannot fight at (the pace) I will do in November. Harris, Hatton, they cannot throw the punches I do."
Even Hatton’s reputation as one of the most pulverizing and relentless body destroyers in the game fails to put a chink in Maussa’s aura of invincibility. Long, lean and often reckless Maussa may be, but concerned with Hatton’s body assault? Not likely.
"Many previous opponents have said they will do that (target his elongated body) but my punch power has (deterred) them,” Carlos explained. “I can use my height and reach very well. Ricky is well known as a body-puncher but I feel I am just as good as he is at this.”
