OREGON WOMEN’S BOXING CHAMP RETAINS NEW MANAGER
Molly McConnell names Bruce Houde out of Chicago to guide her career
(PRESS RELEASE)
Portland, Ore. Top-ranked female boxer Molly McConnell of Portland, Ore., has retained highly respected manager Bruce Houde of Chicago as her new manager. McConnell made the switch from legendary manager Jackie Kallen when Kallen took a position with a boxing promotions firm.

McConnell, whose professional record is 5-1 (2 KO’s) and who is ranked with the top handful of women’s boxers throughout the world, is excited to have Houde’s support as she continues her rather remarkable career.

Having a manager who I can relate to, and who I communicate well with is very important to me," McConnell says. "Bruce and I hit it off right away and I am grateful to get good advice to help move my career forward. Now I have a fantastic trainer in the gym and a fantastic manager as well. It’s very exciting."

Houde, who is with Boxing Management and Promotions Inc. is looking for McConnell’s next match, a challenge because McConnell has proven to be quite a contender.

"She’s very, very good. She is ready to take on very good opponents, so we need to be thoughtful about who we select next," Houde says. "Molly is not only a very strong fighter, she’s a smart fighter and that gives her a special edge in this field."

McConnell is a four-time amateur national champion with a 5-1 (2 KO’s) professional record, making finding opponents particularly challenging.

"The women’s field is still young. We expect Molly’s career to go world-wide to find very good challengers," Houde says.

McConnell went pro in 2004 and has since twice been named WBAN fighter of the month, and as a pro, was selected as the WBAN rookie of the year and a finalist for the 2004 Oregon Sports Awards female professional athlete of the year. She is currently ranked among the top fighters in the world by the WIBA, WIBC and in the top five in the world by BOXREC. McConnell has trained at the West Portland Boxing Gym since 2001 with Bill Meartz. She won four amateur national championship titles, including taking the Women’s National Golden Gloves. McConnell became the first person, male or female, to bring a national golden gloves championship to the state of Oregon in 18 years. She also won the Ringside World Championship Tournament twice. She currently trains at West Portland under world class trainer Leonard Trigg.
