Light Middleweight Woolcombe Walks The High Wire!
LONDON - While European Cruiserweight Champion David Haye and his lethal one punch knockout act headlines Maloney Promotions' cracking fightcard at London's history steeped York Hall on Friday, March 24, an intriguing matchup will take place on the undercard and could very well determine the next light middleweight to come through at top domestic level. Welling's charismatic Gary Woolcombe will take a plunge into the treacherous deep end when he meets Portuguese dangerman Eugenio Monteiro over ten scheduled rounds.
The twenty three year old Woolcombe has remained undefeated while picking off a raft of determined journeymen over the course of his nineteen bout professional career but will be given a true test in the form of the fearless, granite jawed Monteiro.
The Iberian import has ripped a ragged hole through the British boxing scene over the last three years, seeing off quality men such as Anthony Farnell, Takaloo and Gilbert Eastman after suffering his only loss on English soil, a points reversal to sharply skilled boxer Thomas McDonagh.
It's high drama of the first order for the London area starlet Woolcombe, who must maintain the flawless form that has seen him victimize five of his last six foes inside the distance, if he is to successfully parry the cutlass-like thrusts that are sure to herald the onslaught of Monteiro's withering pressure.
Also making appearances on the York Hall show, billed as "The Haymaker Hits London" are a slew of undefeated talents led by Deptford's flash middleweight Anthony Small, Chislehurst pressure artist Sam Webb, power punching cruiserweight Junior MacDonald of Lewisham, Camden Towne super feather sharpshooter Ian Wilson and promising light welter Tom Glover of Essex.
Realizing his professional debut will be thrilling amateur standout Akaash Bhatia and southpaw featherweight speedster Jadgar Abdulla of Denmark sets sail on his maiden voyage under the Maloney Promotions banner.
