Universum have for the first time made an official comment on the Juan Carlos Gomez case. The Cuban heavy tested positive to cocain after winning over Oliver McCall October 15, 2005. Universum states in their press release that Gomez have been unable to prove that he was "clean" in the fight against McCall and have released Gomez from his contract.
"I want to fight the best fighters out there" says newly crowned WBA middleweight champ Felix Sturm in a press release from Universum in the first comment on the one million Euro offer from Sauerland Event to take on IBF ruler Arthur Abraham. Klaus Peter Kohl states that the fact that the offer was made public before it was sent to Universum only made them "irritated" - but no doors are closed and this one is likely to happen down the road. Danish heavy Steffen Nielsen returns after the upset loss to George Arias March 30 in Copenhagen on the undercard to Bredahl vs Fedorov. Nielsen takes on Russian Andrey Fedosov in a sink or swim fight. Featherweight Spend Abazi is in against Marsel Kasimov while welter Christian Bladt square off against Viktor Baranov. EBU lightweight champ Juan Carlos Melero Diaz defends the title against Bulgarian veteran Kirkor Kirkorov April 8 in Ciudad Real. Former French bantam and feather champ Georges Mousse have passed away at the age of 82.
