CHICAGO - This last week, the Chicago Golden Gloves had a tremendous showing, according to boxing sources. Popular WBC U.S.A. Middleweight Title holder "Macho" Miguel Hernandez even said, "It's a good thing I turned pro when I did! Boxing is definitely coming back in Chicago!"
David "The Weezel" Estrada, who is another popular Chicago and television fighter and who nightlights as a personal trainer, had a trainee named Chris in the competition.
Here are some emailed notes from Estrada regarding his protoge:
I finally found a picture of me & Chris after his 1st fight in d GOLDEN GLOVES TOURNANMENT in my computer. Sorry it took so long to find it!! I had 2 go to the pictures I downloaded from Walgreens back 2 my computer.....& now here it is.
Chris won his 1st. fight.....Then had a Bye. His 2nd fight..... & now he is N d Quarterfinals.....?
He fights today @ 7:00 p.m. 156 SN?
Chris lost the fight!!!! He let the fight slip away!!! Chris won the 1st round clearly with a knock down! 2nd round, he did not do anything!!! Not even one punch!!! The third was better but, he gave his opponent CONFIDENCE & [let him] back into the fight and lost a close decision!
Oh, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat!
