A sold out crowd of approximately 600-700 fight fans came to Club Cinema in Pompano Beach, Fl, to witness the first ever co boxing promotion held by Roberto Duran, Team Freedom Promotions and DRL Promotions. Boxeo Azteca was televising live to over 150 cities in the U.S.Six entertaining bouts where held .The two Co-Main Events had plenty of hard hitting action that would make any Duran fan proud, reminiscent of Duran’s style of aggressive entertaining boxing.

The most exciting bout of the evening was the 1st Co-Main Event that took place .Local favorite Hicklet Lau, 19-16-2(9 KO’S) from Miami, which always seems to be in a brawl, took on undefeated Columbian sensation Richard Gutierrez 20-0(13 KO’S).I n a welterweight matchup .What made this 10 rounder so exciting was Gutierrez instead of boxing, Lau decided to slug it out with him.

In the early rounds Lau suffered a bad bloody cut over his left eye. This didn’t deter Lau from continuing to go all out fists flying. He was throwing lots of punches and bombs. Gutierrez, throwing a bit less punches, connected more and won the bout by majority decision 95-95, and 96-94 twice. Both fighters displayed excellent stamina and endurance. This was one of the most entertaining non title bouts held in South Florida this year.

The 2nd Co-Main event held between bantamweights Jose Nieves 14-0-2 (8 KO’S) from Puerto Rico and Tomas Rojas 22-7(14 KO’S) from Mexico was also very entertaining.

Rojas the underdog knocked down Nieves in the 5th and 6th rounds. Nieves incredibly rebounded with heart and determination and won the last 4 rounds. Final scores were a unanimous decision for Nieves 95-93, 97-92, and 96-92.

Club Cinema in Pompano Beach, Fl will again host boxing May 19th. ESPN 2 Friday Night Fights will be televising. Alejandro Berrio, 24-4 (23 KO’S), from Colombia will be facing Yusef Mack, 22-0-2 (14 KO’S), from Philadelphia in a 12 round IBF Elimination Bout. The card will be promoted by Winky Promotions, Peter Kahn Entertainment and DRL Promotions. Duran should be Co-Promoting again in South Florida in the near future. Fans can keep track of him at www.duranscorner.com .
