A Golden Night for 'Golden Boy' Team!

LAS VEGAS, May 6 – Saturday night was a big one for the Golden Boy Promotions team at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and in addition to the stirring win by President Oscar De La Hoya over Ricardo Mayorga, five other fighters from the GBP team emerged victorious in their bouts.

Junior middleweight star Kassim ‘The Dream’ Ouma, who is co-promoted by Russell Peltz, survived a first round knockdown to earn a hard fought split decision over Marco Antonio Rubio in a bruising 12 round bout that saw both men give and take some hellacious bombs without giving in.

Two recent signees who are co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Sycuan Ringside Promotions, junior lightweight Joan Guzman and junior welterweight Jorge Paez Jr., made impressive debuts with GBP by outpointing Javier Jauregui and Lowell Brownfield, respectively, in undercard bouts which were also televised by HBO Pay-Per-View.

2004 US Olympian Rock Allen moved to 7-0 with 5 KOs with a six round decision win over Juan Hernandez, and Puerto Rican super bantamweight Jonathan Oquendo improved to 9-0 with 5 KOs by decisioning Torrence Daniels over eight rounds.

And even though GBP fighters Rubio, Jauregui, and Aaron Garcia fell short in their bouts tonight, Golden Boy Promotions congratulates all our warriors, who – win or lose – always gave their best.
