Roberto Duran Throws 1st Pitch for Ariz. Diamondbacks!
Duran in Phoenix to promote July 7th bout of Casamayor vs Lamont Pearson
PHOENIX, Arizona, Wednesday , June 21st - DRL Promotions announced today that former 5-time former World champion Roberto Duran, the legendary "Hands of Stone" will throw out a ceremonial first pitch on June 28th for the Arizona, Diamondbacks at Chase field. Duran is in Phoenix to help promote the July 7th professional boxing card "Celebrity Wars," a legendary night of professional boxing at the Celebrity Theatre. The main event features Joel Casamayor (32-3-1, 20KO's) and Lamont "Bay" Pearson (23-3-1, 12KO's ) in a classic 10 round bout. The undercard spotlights; welterweight Julio "Baby Face" Garcia (36-2-0, 29KO's) of Ciudad Acuna, Mexico against Grover Wiley (30-7-1, 14KO's) Omaha, Nebraska.
Duran played little league baseball and has always had a great passion for the sport. He considers himself a big league fan of the game, flattered for this invitation to participate in the Diamondbacks pre game festivities. "I've got a strong arm, the catcher better be ready," stated Duran.
It was 26 summers ago, June of 1980 in Montreal, Canada that Duran won the WBC Welterweight Championship of the World from Sugar Ray Leonard. Roberto Duran is truly a legend and one of the greatest if not the greatest fighter in history. Among all the great Latin World Champions, Duran has no equal.
