Important Changes for WBC & NABF Female Divisions

By Ed Pearson
Executive Secretary, Female Championship Committee,
World Boxing Council

When the WBC Championship Committee we started out last year, we amended the divisions to remove a couple of the weight classes, because of the amount of experienced and quality female fighters in some divisions.

In the interim, we've decided to add back a couple of divisions, as we've decided that although there may not be enough fighters to fill 15 slots in our ratings in some divisions, there are enough boxers to have some ratings, and offer a title. This benefits the boxers because they no longer have to give up several pounds to challenge for a title, or have to lose too much weight to make a lower weight division. Because we have enough fighters in those weight classes, they can fight at a more natural weight.
