Blea, Williamson & Camarena help 'World Boxing Cares' prevail in Denver!
This is a short story of some amazing men who wouldn’t give up. For years, they had given help, heart, and funds to the youngsters at Denver Children’s Hospital. In fact, one of these gentlemen, Christopher Elliot Blea, has an intimate relationship with the hospital. He, a leukemia survivor and former patient, knows what it takes to walk through a minefield and come out victorious.
Despite this, Denver Children’s Hospital was reticent to allow our boxers to participate in any official capacity. They felt that boxing was an inappropriate sport and they opted to deprive the children of the generosity of these wonderful men. This, despite the fact that these men had already served this institution for many years. I am not demeaning the talents and intentions of the dedicated staff at Denver’s Children Hospital. There first job is to do what they did for Chris Blea; to save lives. Just as it’s our job, as concerned and caring citizens, to improve the quality of those lives they save. I want to add that this is the only time we’ve encountered this. All of the prestigious hospitals and facilities we have approached have opened their hearts and doors to us enthusiastically. They have been excited about our program; and their attitude reflects in the smiles of their patients. So we applaud, Stephen Blea, Christopher Elliot Blea and WBC Champions Da Varryl Williamson and Donald Camarena, who despite rejection, felt so strongly that it was their right to help sick children, they persevered .. . and, at last bell…WON! Below is Stephen Blea's, WBC Officials account of the event. * * * WBCares Champions: Colorado WBC Members along with our WBC C.A.M Champions Da Varryl Williamson, Donald Camarena. And Leukemia Survivor Mr. Christopher Elliot Blea whom just recently celebrated his 18th birthday and is currently a senior at Wheat Ridge High School. * * * In Support of our WBC World Boxing Cares “Big Champs for Little Champs” we have donated a wagon filled with stuffed animals for the children of our Denver Children’s Hospital. Despite their feelings in regards to head injuries, we want to show them that we do have much compassion for these ill children and we do respect those feelings. Despite our choice of sport we also do have family members that have been afflicted with these numerous diseases.
Our Wagon will stand out as an everlasting statement that we do CARE and hopefully soon we will be given the opportunity to go in and visit some of these children along with Christopher who will give some of these family members a ray of hope.
I want to Personally Thank on behalf of the WBC Raylene Sanchez for donating the wagon and Mr. Vic Vickers of Fine Line Graphics for donating all the signs for the Wagon, and especially my nephew Christopher for helping me deliver our WBC Wagon. Also, Mr. Camarena and Mr. Williamson for Supporting our Humanitarian Project! That’s what being a Champion is all about! If your wondering why a wagon? Simple answer Chris told me when he was in that hospital that’s what he enjoyed the most was riding in the wagon a memory when he was 2 years old. BEFORE
