Euro-Beat Update: Downed Fighter Lucas in Coma; McCline to Fight Valuev & More

German feather Nick Lucas, who was seriosly injured November 17 in Furstenwalde after getting knocked out by Nico Schroeder, have made slight recovery. Lucas, a pro debutant, had two operations to the brain and have been in intensive care. He remains in coma though.

Sauerland Event have announced that it will be American heavy Jameel McCline that challenge WBA champ Nikolai Valuev January 20 in Basel, Switzerland.

Zapir Gereev and Daniel Zell clash for the vacant WBC Youth title at jr middle December 17 in Berlin. It will be the sole profight on a martial arts show. Both Gereev and Zell normally fights under the GBA (German Boxing Association) banner but supervising this fight will be the BDB with WBC officials as judges and referee.

Supermiddles Robert Stieglitz and Alejandro Berrio will fight for the vacant IBF title early next year. Stieglitz beat Berrio to become mandatory challenger for then champ Jeff Lacy, who then lost to Joe Calzaghe while Stieglitz was kept waiting.

Belgian official and EBU council member Bob Logist have been elected to interim President for the EBU. Logist will remain President until February 3, 2007, when the EBU call for an extra General Assembly.

Spanish 140 lb champ Hector Moreira defends the title January 12 in Lugo against Hector Bestilleiro.

He´s back, well he was never really gone, as a boxing writer: the self proclaimed "Mr Boxing", Belgian referee and judge Daniel Van De Wiele, who now anonymously regularly contributes for a major website.
