SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Tuesday, February 6, 2007 -- PUERTO RICAN heavyweight standout Fres “The Big O” Oquendo has signed a promotional agreement with DRL Promotions. The up-and-coming boxing promotional company, perhaps best known for its connection to legend and former world champion Roberto Duran, announced the newest addition to its fight roster today with great enthusiasm.

Oquendo, who recently lost a controversial and hard-fought twelve-round decision to Evander Holyfield, boasts a successful 26-4 (16 KO) record at the age of 33, including earning the WBO Latino Heavyweight title, WBA Federation Heavyweight title, and NABF Heavyweight title. DRL’s Director of Boxing Luis DeCubas says Oquendo got robbed in the Holyfield decision and has proven himself to be the real McCoy: “We couldn’t be happier to add Fres to our team. He always comes to fight, and I predict he will again be a player to contend with in the wide open heavyweight division.”

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Chicago, Oquendo will now train in Tampa, Florida. “We are blessed to be affiliated with such boxing giants,” replied Oquendo. “Roberto Duran and Luis DeCubas are superstars in our business. Now that we’ve joined their team, we couldn’t be more excited about where our career is going from here.”

DRL twins to make pro debut

DRL also announced today the much-anticipated pro debuts of the Velasquez twins from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Juan Carlos Velasquez and Carlos Ivan Velasquez have compiled spectacular amateur records in the ring and both are now scheduled to make their pro debuts in four-round featherweight bouts February 22 at the Roseland Theater in New York City. With a combined 290 amateur wins, the pair expects a smooth transition to the pro stage. “We are out to prove something,” said Carlos Ivan. “We’re going to take this division by storm with our speed, power and grace.”
