“I congratulate Chad Dawson on his victory over Tomasz Adamek, and by the looks of things, he’s a real fighter who won’t duck any challenges,” said Johnson, the revered ‘Road Warrior’, who owns a 44-11-2 (29 KOs) record that includes a knockout win over Roy Jones Jr. and victories over Antonio Tarver, Clinton Woods and Eric Harding. “Of course, having said that, I expect that he would have no problem giving fight fans what they want by meeting me in the ring as soon as he’s ready to make his first title defense.”
Johnson, a native of Jamaica who now makes his home in Florida, is 38 years young and like a fine wine, he is seemingly getting better with time. Winner of two of his last three bouts, with the only loss coming via a controversial split decision to IBF Champion Clinton Woods in their third fight last September, Johnson is eager to put together another year like 2004, the year he swept the awards for Fighter of The Year while beating Woods, Jones, and Tarver in successive bouts. To get there, he wants to begin by meeting and beating Dawson.
“Chad Dawson is the future of this division, but I still believe that I am the present, and I want to show the world that I am still the top Light Heavyweight in the world by beating a young and skilled Champion like Dawson,” said Johnson.
