Alejandro Berrio

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla., February 14, 2007 –- The fate of the vacant IBF Super Middleweight Title will be decided Saturday March 3, when Alejandro Berrio 25-4-0, (24 KOs) steps into the ring to face the unbeaten Robert Stieglitz 29-0-0, (19 KOs) in Rostock, Germany.

These international Super Middleweight stars have done battle in Germany before: Their December 3, 2005, fight provided a devastating outcome for Berrio, who lost by TKO when judges suddenly stopped the bout in the 11th round. Berrio clearly has not forgotten the result of that fight in Magdeburg, Germany, Stieglitz’s training residence.

“I’ve not been the same fighter since, nor will I ever be again,” quipped Berrio during one of his final training and sparring sessions this week in South Florida. “That fight left me hungry and with plenty to prove. The time is now to see who the real champ is.”

The hard-punching, 30-year-old Colombian has only fought twice since the Stieglitz decision, and both matches ended in devastating knockouts. In March of 2006, Berrio KO’d Eusebio Chiquillo , and then in May, he defeated Yusaf Mack. Since then, Berrio has dedicated most of his time to training and focusing on Stieglitz.

DRL’s director of boxing, Luis De Cubas, says Berrio is in great shape – mentally and physically – and will not disappoint anyone who thought he should have been crowned champion in his last title bout with Stieglitz. “Berrio was leading on all scorecards before that fight was stopped. This kid will prove again he has the punching power of any champion,” stated De Cubas.

Berrio just finished his pre-fight training in South Florida and is scheduled to fly to Germany this weekend. Arriving two weeks before the bout will allow Berrio to adjust to the time change and become mentally prepared for his much-anticipated rematch. “I’m focused and ready. I won’t be denied. I will return home with the IBF title. There is no question about that.“
