World Boxing Council Lightweight Title Holder David Diaz, who is reportedly going to defend his title against Erik Morales this summer in Las Vegas, joined the festivities.
Ditto for Rita "La Guera" Figueroa, who'll be fighting Mia Rosales-St. John on April 20th. She didn't get a chance to stop by at ringside afterwards, as she said that after they saw Mike Nevitt's fight, the gang had other plans. Popular WBC USA Middleweight Title Holder "Macho" Miguel Hernandez, who is also reportedly fighting on April 20th was there, too. Hernandez was recently hired by the railroads. He said afterwards that he was happy that fellow Chicago fighters Luciano Perez and Mike Nevitt won their fights. Jaime (Jimmy) Sandoval, younger brother of former WBC Super Featherweight and Lightweight Title Holder Jesus Chavez, and a good boxer in his own right, was there to greet the fans.
Exciting middleweight slugger Jimmy Gonzalez, who fought a memorable war with Michael Walker a couple summers ago and earned a draw, then subsequently retired, said that he wasn't sure if he'd come back to the ring or not. His brother, Jorge Gonzalez, said, "It's fun to see the boxing from this side of the ropes." However, he also added, "It gets you excited...and you want to be in there." Jorge said that he'll probably be fighting again this summer.
Freddie Cuevas, who went the distance with current World Middleweight Champion Jermaine Taylor and fought many others, was looking dapper as usual. Kendall Gill, who's had a successful career in basketball and had a few professional boxing matches, was upfront and center with his friends.
It's always a pleasure seeing Chicago fighters supporting encouraging and supporting each other. Keep up the good fight, Chi-Town boxers!
