By Juan C. Ayllon with Mike Michael
[Editor’s Note: Due to technical issues and time constraints, I emailed the questions to Mike Michael, who graciously asked the questions and transcribed the results.]
Taking a few minutes from his preparations, he answered questions with Mike Michael of Cestus Management. Cyberboxingzone: Tell us about how you’re feeling after this latest training camp. I understand that your muscular development and tone has gone up a few notches. What’s going on? Are you lifting more weights?
Donovan George: my training has been harder on everything that I have been doing. We turned it up and the workouts have been pure intensity and I love it! These intensity levels have made my body harder and brought out muscles that I haven’t seen before and that’s all I can say to you about that subject without giving away any secrets.
Cyberboxingzone: Tell us about some of the people you sparred with and how those sessions went.. Donovan George: I have sparred with Mike Nevitt and David Estrada (Weezel) (sic) and a few other guys, everybody has helped me out tremendously and I feel strong, sharp and ready to destroy Aberto Mercedes on Friday, so Don’t blink during the fight! Cyberboxingzone: What can you tell us about your opponent, Alberto Mercedes and how you will deal with his power and experience? Donovan George: everybody tells me Mercedes is tough, he’s durable and hangs in there. I know he has fought some pretty good fighters in his career, but on Friday I guarantee everyone that Mercedes will find out what a painful losing experience it is being in the ring me, because he has never boxed anybody like Donovan George.
Cyberboxingzone: Assuming all goes well this Friday, what’s next? Donovan George: You will have to ask Cestus Management that question, they are my manager and what ever they want me do I will do it.
Mike Michael, Cestus Management: we are on the cusp of a step up, Donovan has improved by leaps and bounds and the improvement is evident in the performances he has put on in his last five fights. Donovan’s progress is where it should be at this point, which now enables us to take the next step, which will be discussed with our promoters Top Rank. Like I have said on several occasions, we are grooming a future World Champion and things need to be done in the right way, so as soon as we are ready to announce our future plans everybody will know about it. At this time as we speak all we have on our mind is the pure destruction of Aberto Mercedes on Friday 13th. Cyberboxinzone: On a more personal note, what do you think of the women in Chicago, and how do they compare with others you’ve met around the country? How do you handle temptation when you’re trying to focus on boxing?
Donovan George: I love the women in Chicago and I love the women across the country. I don’t compare people from where they are from, I treat people they way they treat me. So it doesn’t matter what part of the country someone comes from. Obviously it’s easier to meet people in Chicago because I know practically everyone, it’s my hometown. I have a lot going on in my career I really don’t have to much time to be involved or think about any outside distractions. My whole life is dedicated to getting to the top in boxing and be the best. Everything has been put into place for me to make it, so I can’t let any distractions or temptations destroy must be done or let the people down that believe in me and have taken me so far and who will take me to the top.
Cyberboxingzone: What would you like to accomplish—and when—in the next three years?
Donovan George: in the next three years I will be established as one of the best fighters in the world and I will be ready to challenge for a World Title or would have won a World Title. Like I have been saying for a long time, I have the right people behind me which means I can reach my full potential which makes me feel unstoppable and that makes me reach new heights and that’s a great feeling to carry around with you everyday.
Cyberboxingzone: Any last thoughts for the fans?
Donovan George I am in phenomenal shape and I have not taken Aberto Mercedes lightly, I know what I need to do and that is win in sensational style. I love fighting in Chicago and I promise everyone that is coming to the fight, I’m ready to give everyone what they want and that’s a sizzling dominating victorious performance, Mercedes is gonne get destroyed, DON’T BLINK. Mike Michael, Cestus Management: Donovan is a monster ready to be unleashed and on Friday Aberto Mercedes will find this out. It doesn’t matter what Mercedes will try and do it will be in vain, there is only one word that can describe what will happen to this fighter and that is Annihilation. So to all the fans that will be attendance at Cicero stadium on Friday 13th. Lock the doors and run for cover Alberto Mercedes is getting ANNIHLATED!
