News & Notes for Friday's 'Solo Boxeo' Show

CHICAGO - In the co-main event bout this Friday night, featuring a terrific Mexican vs. Puerto Rico cross town showdown, both Chicago based fighters, Francisco Rodriguez and Ivan Rodriguez will be accompanied to the ring by Chicago’s two most popular boxers over the last ten years for their Illinois State super bantamweight title bout.

Francisco Rodriguez, representing Guadalajara, Mexico will make his walk to the ring along side lightweight world champion David Diaz. Last month Diaz defended his WBC Lightweight Championship belt with an outstanding win over boxing legend Erik Morales at the Allstate Arena in Chicago.

Ivan Rodriguez, representing Caguas, Puerto Rico will be led to the ring by two time world title challenger, heavyweight “FAST” Fres Oquendo. Oquendo has won his last two bouts with solid wins this year over Damian Norris and Elieser Castillo.

The “EL NINO AZTECA” management team for Francisco Rodriguez is giving away specially designed t-shirts to the first 100 entrants to the SOLO BOXEO/PRIDE event. Doors at the Congress Theater open at 5:30pm with the first bell at 6:30pm. The televised co-main event will start promptly at 7pm.

The SOLO BOXEO/PRIDE event at Chicago ’s Congress Theater celebrates Mexican Independence Day and features terrific Mexican vs. Puerto Rican battles in both of the televised main and co main event bouts amongst its world class bouts.

In the main event, SOLO BOXEO staple Fernando Trejo, 29-12 (18KO’s) of Mexico City faces off against Juan Ramon Cruz, 15-3-1 (11KO’s) of San Juan, Puerto Rico in a ten round lightweight battle.

The full fight card is as follows:

Fernando Trejo vs. Juan Ramon Cruz, ten rounds, lightweights

Francisco Rodriguez vs. Ivan Rodriguez, eight rounds, super bantamweights

Orlando Salido vs. Marty Robbins, eight rounds, super featherweights

Leo Martinez vs. Jorge Lara, six rounds, lightweights

Andrzej Fonfara vs. Luis Hodge, six rounds, junior middleweights

Eric Estrada vs. Selso Bosquez, four rounds, super bantamweights

“PRIDE” is presented by Chicago ’s 8 Count Productions and Bob Arum’s Top Rank Inc. along with TCF Bank, TECATE Beer and Aero Mexico. The SOLO BOXEO broadcast will be viewed in more than 42 US markets and 70 foreign countries.
