CHICAGO - Who says school is a drag? In fact, for World Boxing Council Lightweight title holder, David Diaz, it's a wonderful thing to be in school.

You see, Chicago ’s Carl Schurz High School has proclaimed Friday, October 12th, “David Diaz Day” in honor of his induction into the Schurz Sports Hall of Fame. Diaz’s induction will take place at an all school pep rally as part of Schurz's homecoming celebration prior to their Friday night football game in which the Bulldogs will take on Taft High School at Lane Tech Stadium at 7pm.

Diaz is the reigning WBC Lightweight World Champion, a title he defended on August 4th in a classic battle against three division world champion Erik Morales at the Allstate Arena, just outside of Chicago .

Said Diaz, class of 1995 Schurz High School , “It means a great a deal to me to be invited back to Schurz to be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. High school was a big part of my life and I’m honored to receive this award.

Continued Diaz, “When I was a high school, I fought in the amateurs and thought about one day being a world champion. Now that I’ve achieved that I want to go back and let the current students at Schurz know that if they work hard and follow their dreams anything is possible.”

David Diaz is managed by Jim Strickland and promoted by Bob Arum’s Top Rank Incorporated.
