Update: 'Weezel' Estrada Now Fighting Robert Kamya!

HINCKLEY, Minn.--Wouldn't you know! Just as boxing middleweight veteran David "The Weezel" Estrada was ready to fight one guy--James Crayton, a former lightweight NABA title holder--at the Grand Casino, they switched up again at the last minute.

These things happen to fighters like Estrada, whose record belies his tendency to take tough matches at the last minute for the right money.

Estrada's wife, Francie, emailed me this update moments ago. It read:

"I just talked to David, and they switched his fight back to Robert Kamya. Juan, I know you wrote something about his fight on cyberboxingzone.com/news, so I thought I'd give you the update.

"David weighed in at 158 and his opponent weighed in at 157 1/2. David had to wait a while at the airport yesterday. His flight was supposed to leave at 4pm, but he didn't get on the plane until around 9:30pm because of the snow - but he got there! He missed the weigh-in last night, so he had it this a.m. instead."

Kamya, who's a rough and tumble fighter, has a record of 16-8 and 4 knockouts which includes defeating Alex Bunema in August 2005 for the WBC Continental Americas light middleweight title. This is the same Bunema who stopped former IBF Light Middleweight title holder Roman Karmazin last month.

In his last bout in September, Kamya was stopped by Ronald Hearns, son of the famous multiple weight class champion Tommy "The Hitman" Hearns.

David "The Weezel" Estrada, whose record currently stands at 11-10 and 8 knockouts, had signed a contract earlier this week to fight Kamya. However, two days ago, he was informed that he'd be fighting James Crayton instead. Then came the last minute change.

Coincidentally, David Estrada is also my personal trainer. God speed, David!
