'Red Belt' DVD to be Released August 26th!


CULVER CITY, Calif. (July 7, 2008) –Academy Award®-nominated writer/director David Mamet (1998, Best Adapted Screenplay, Wag the Dog; 1983, Best Adapted Screenplay, The Verdict) explores the fascinating world of martial arts in his latest film, Redbelt.

This Sony Pictures Classics film, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor (American Gangster, Children of Men), Emily Mortimer (Lars and the Real Girl, Match Point), Alice Braga (I Am Legend, City of God), Tim Allen (Wild Hogs, TV’s “Home Improvement”), Joe Mantegna (The Godfather Part III), Rodrigo Santoro (300, Love Actually), Academy Award® nominee David Paymer (1993, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Mr. Saturday Night; Ocean’s Thirteen) and Ricky Jay (The Prestige, State and Main), will be released on DVD and Blu-ray™ High-Def by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on August 26, 2008 at an SLP of $38.96 for Blu-ray High-Def and $27.96 for DVD.

Special features on the Blu-ray and DVD will include several behind-the-scenes featurettes, interviews, and a rare commentary track with director/writer David Mamet and UFC Champion Randy Couture.

Synopsis

Redbelt is the story of Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a Jiu-Jitsu teacher who has avoided the prize fighting circuit, choosing instead to pursue an honorable life by operating a self-defense studio with a samurai’s code.

Terry and his wife Sonda (Alicia Braga) struggle to keep the business running to make ends meet. An accident on a dark, rainy night at the Academy between an off-duty officer (Max Martini) and a distraught lawyer (Emily Mortimer) puts in motion a series of events that will change Terry’s life dramatically, introducing him to a world of promoters (Ricky Jay, Joe Mantegna) and movie star Chet Frank (Tim Allen). Faced with this, in order to pay off his debts and regain his honor, Terry must step into the ring for the first time in his life.
