Olympic Update: China's Best Fighter Gets Best Draw

By Zhenyu Li

BEIJING, August 9, 2008 -- The suspense is cleared as China's best boxing athlete Shiming Zou got the best draw in Asian Hotel on August 8, 2008, paving the way for a lockup of the light flyweight Olympic gold.

Shiming Zou, the two-time world champion and the Athens Olympics bronze medalist faces soft opposition in his first two fights, while all of his tough competitors landed on the other side of the bracket. When he reaches the quarterfinal, some of his top competitors such as the opponents from Cuba, Russia, Philippines and the U.S. may have either been washed out or worn out.

Shiming Zou has beaten all of his tough opponents by large margins, except for the Cuban boxer.

He will face a boxer from the Venezuela in the opening bout, which is a perfect sparring partner for him to get warm-up.

His second opponents will be between the French boxer Nordine Oubaali, who is a bronze medalist in the 2007 Chicago World Boxing Championships, and a fighter from Uzbekistan. Whoever wins the fight, the victor will turn to be a victim to Zou on his journey to the golden glory.
