By Scott Hammond Mallon at ringside
Gavin and Russell are out of the mix, too bad. All that work only to be eliminated because of their inability to make weight.
Korobov won easily over Terbunja and made it look easy.
Estrada won his bout but faded - I just can't see him winning gold.
Julius Jackson got trounced by Kenny Egan of Ireland but scored a knockdown in round two and although he looked a bit slowed than egan, he looked like he might be a halfway decent pro. Julian Jackson accompanied him to the ring. Egan looked sharp and might end up medaling - if his fragile mindset doesn't do him in. John Jackson fights tomorrow.
Angkham Chomphuphuang, a Wushu gold medalist, won a sloppy decision over Korea's Deok Jin-Cho. Fortunately for me, I got in the pool and shot ringside for four bouts. Hopefully I'll get in daily because I can't stand lugging around a 400 MM lens. To say I'm getting a workout is an understatement.
I'm going to try and upload a few photos if possible. Will post them shortly if I'm able. I may need to hit McCafe or the cafeteria so I don't poop out.
From my perspective the games are going pretty good so far. The boxing should only get better and I am really looking forward to it. Until later...
