PROVIDENCE (June 9, 2007) - A Special Cruiserweight Attraction bout between nine-time US National amateur champion Aaron Williams and tough Derrick "D-Train" Brown has been added as chief support for THE June 20th "Cha-Ching In The Ring," featuring "The Pride of Providence" Peter Manfredo, Jr., on ESPN2 Wednesday Night Fights at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.
Williams (12-0-1, 8 KOs), fighting out of Las Vegas, will be making his CES debut against Brown (13-2-2, 11 KOs), who is from New York City, in a six-round match. Interestingly enough, former world light heavyweight champion Eddie Mustapha Muhammad trains Williams, while Christy Martin, arguably the greatest fighter in women's boxing history, handles Brown.
Jimmy Burchfield's Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES) is promoting "Cha-Ching In The Ring" in association with Foxwoods Resort Casino and ESPN2.
WBC rated No. 14 super middleweight Manfredo (27-4, 13 KOs), star of The Contender I television reality show, headlines against upset specialist WBC No. 35 rated David Banks, who is coming off back-to-back wins against previously unbeaten Elvin Ayala. Manfredo, a true throwback fighter, will be in action for the third time since April 7.
Three years ago almost to the exact date, present IWBF lightweight champion Jaime "Hurricane" Clampitt and women's boxing pioneer Jane "Fleetwood Assassin" Couch will finally have a rematch to their The Ring's 2004 "Female Fight of the Year," which Couch won via a very close unanimous decision (96-95, 96-94, 96-94) for the IWBF and NABA light welterweight titles.
Clampitt-Couch is the 10-round co-feature for a vacant IWBF junior welterweight title. Clampitt (17-4-1, 7 KOs), a three-time world champion, is coming off of a dominating victory by unanimous 10-round decision against Mia St. John on February 9. Couch (28-9, 9 KOs), representing her native England, is a 5-time world champion.
"What a great fight this is going to be," promoter Jimmy Burchfield said. "Aaron is only 21. He's a phenom but he'll be severely tested by Brown, who hasn't lost as a cruiserweight. On top of that we have two great trainers and fighters working their corners. Christy could very well end up fighting the winner of Clampitt and Couch.
"It's going to be a night to remember. Peter Manfredo is back again, fighting for an unprecedented, at in today's world, third time in 75 days against a guy who is making a living knocking off favored fighters. Clampitt-Couch was the 2004 'Female Fight of the Year' and I don't expect anything less this time around. We also get to showcase some of our other undefeated prospects such as come-backing Jarrod Tillinghast, talented Angel Camacho, Jr., exciting Hank Lundy and a new kid from a boxing family, Gerry Grealish."
Scheduled to fight on the undercard against opponents to be determined are unbeaten light heavyweight Jarrod Tillinghast (8-0, 2 KOs), undefeated super middleweight Angel Camacho, Jr. (6-0, 4 KOs) and perfect Philadelphia light welterweight "Hammerin'" Hank Lundy (6-0). The newest member of CES, junior middleweight "Irish" Gerry Grealish (6-0, 4 KOs), who fought on the U.S. Marines Boxing Team and is a Boston firefighter, makes his CES debut on June 20. He is a native of Galway, Ireland who is living in Quincy, Massachusetts. One other bout is expected to be added to the card. All fighters and bouts are subject to change.
